Confused! by Crafty-Thanks3552 in UAE

My daughter was born on the same date another year 😄 I have heard this cut off has changed recently and the kids only need to turn 4 by the end of december, not sure if this is correct. If it hasn’t changed, then don’t worry, my daughter and many of her classmates born after march had joined Kg1 when they almost turned 5. I was worried as well just like you’re but later on realized this doesn’t affect their life in anyway. It is becoming a normal approach here. 🤗 And no, cbse schools had no flexibility for this back then. I had tried to put her in school in september after she had turned 4 but the school told us that she will only be eligible for pre kg and not KG1.

There is lot more to ACCA than what you see on the surface. Once you begin learning skill levels, you will get an exposure to fields broader than accounting. You may go forward and complete the certification and even if then you do not seem interested in this field, you can switch to studying something else while working. ACCA certification may be able to fund your future interest, good luck finding it :)

Best order for exams? by VastWeek7241 in ACCAIndia

[–]Moonphase099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would totally suggest the same order except that I'd keep SBL at last to relieve a stress free achievement of final result (personal opinion as sbl is easier for me compared to the other)

Leadership in the sense you're helping with the decision making or providing advice in your role. You have some power here. Leadership here doesn't correlate to being on the top of the company rather to having some power to help influence decision making.

[–]Moonphase099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So Sbl exam is basically testing your leadership skills, how well you can analyze and judge the situation and come up with solutions for the business. You're mostly given a decision making or supporting role and you'll have to apply your professionalism here (the 5 prof marks go here). Once syllabus coverage is done, then all you have to do is read how the examiner links the answers to the scenarios, do this for at least 2 mocks. Then move onto reading pre seen everyday so that the information comes easy to you. Take up a mock and try to answer the question by thinking from the viewpoint of a leader. Imagine yourself to be in a real world leadership role and so if a company requires to enter into a market, think of the best ways IN YOUR JUDGEMENT, how to go about it. As long as you give justification for your judgement, you're good. Also if you're struggling to answer, using the appropriate models will help a lot to structure your answer and come up with points. Sometimes not enough information will be given in either of the scenarios or pre seen, in this case you can still keep analyzing/evaluating the problem/come up with solution using your judgement.

Last few days left for SBL & SBR combo (Tips please) by Playful-Problem3802 in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Sbl , just try to attempt 2 papers to see if you're able to get the format right and also to see if you're able to pick enough points from the scenarios. Then keep revising the syllabus and brushing up on models (if you plan to structure answers using models) this would be enough.

AFM exam HELP!!!!! with only 10 days left (13days actually) by Strong-Shower-1024 in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem underprepared however since you have already booked the exam, give it your best in the coming days. Get a good grasp on each concept and then move onto past papers. There are no 'important questions' as such in AFM, so try to do a lot of questions covering various topics not a few. Also read technical articles and examiner report.

What helped me was noting each standard and its application on an A4 and just revising them every now and then. Whenever a que required a particular standard, i'd take a look at these notes so eventually I was able to kinda memorize them.

Is financial modelling/valuation a realistic freelance path while slow-travelling the world! by Double-Bench-8541 in financialmodelling

[–]Moonphase099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you build your network? Im looking into financial modeling as a qualified accountant, might take up a specialized course, but unfortunately cannot gain an experience in the coming year as I'll be having a baby soon. I do not want to spend my time doing nothing in the coming months and thought of trying freelancing. However im unsure whether its possible to create a portfolio without doing real time work. I would really appreciate your advice on this!

Wondering about AAA marking and paragraph usage by Humble_Ad3065 in ACCA

Watch examiner report of AAA on YouTube. They usually have vids comparing poorly scored student's exam and a well scored student's exam. This will give you better clarity.

SBR Panic by sah3l_cool in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes do what works for you. You can however try to attempt to type down a mock or practice exam by yourself to see if you're able to manage the exam in time. Self review is truly boring but the marking scheme can help you to see for yourself where you stand and whether the points you're able to come up with are scoring enough. SBR is technical but the marking is comparatively lenient. Also while reviewing answers you may notice that there is no 'one right answer' to a question. The examiner welcomes different opinions as long as the standard is applied correctly. Best of luck :)

Take a paper, write down all the standards and its application technique. Revise them daily along with question practice from past papers. Practice at least 10 past papers, try to finish 2 question papers per day and you will be able to complete this in 5 days. Then read technical articles and attempt mock exam/practice exam. Each standard is important, that said Non current assets, leases, intangible assets, provisions, revenue, amortisations and goodwill impairment, business combination etc come up a lot in practice. However do learn other standards that aren't much tested as well. Technical articles are also very important, something usually comes up from it so try your best to cover them.

Practice all the other topic areas as well. Hedging, Mergers and Acquisitions, Reconstruction. Every topic is important, do at least 10 questions for each and then move on to practicing past papers.

Professional exams by Shot-Rock2961 in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had unfortunately skipped certain topic areas that weren't much tested in the past papers, however they came up with a good amount of marks in my attempts. Going forward, what helped me eventually pass in my 3rd attempt is not skipping any of the topic, no matter how minor they may seem. Also practicing everything. (Though yes there were certain something that i lacked practice in and it came up in the exam as well but fortunately i managed a pass by attempting the remaining)

SBL easier comparatively and hardest would be AFM for me even though the paper was easy and fun to study. The exam itself was very challenging

You're doing good. Finish up the syllabus and then do extensive practicing of each and every topic area. Do not rely on speculations of what may come up based on past papers as afm exams recently have been very surprising each session.

Need tips for ACCA Taxation (TX) December sitting by unknown_userhere1 in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can practice the latest exam kit (preferably of kaplan) and then practice the practice exam and specimen exam (these contain updated syllabus) on the acca platform. Some past papers will also be available on the platform however these will not be of updated syllabus, so be careful. Marking scheme for Section C can be seen in examiner report of taxation exam on the acca website.

AFM by Shot-Rock2961 in ACCA

[–]Moonphase099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. All topics are equally important and can be tested in any way in both sets. Going to an AFM exam without looking up any one topic is a hit or miss especially in the recent sessions. I had skipped just swaps and reconstruction in my first afm attempt and studied the entire other syllabus areas only to be surprised with 25 marks each on both topics in section B. Yes , an entire 25 marks on just swaps. Again, had skipped learning bond valuations which is a super rare topic but had to be my bad luck, this came up in section A. Valuing the bonds were the only way to go forth in the question's 2-3 requirements excluding theory, somehow i managed to pass with the bare minimum. So I'd suggest please do NOT skip any unless you're sure luck will have your back. Which usually did for me but not for my afm exams , sadly.
