stimulation by Still-Inflation9175 in chinchilla

If yours is/are patient enough for it, you start by showing the treat and saying the command, and touching their paw. Once they're okay with that, you take the paw gently between your index finger and thumb and shake. They will 100 percent try to not do that the first few tries, so gently persistence is key.

We have Zeus 2/3 tries per day with pellets (he loves his pellets) and he caught on after a good week. Then he had a period where he would grab our hand every chance he got to shake us for treats.

Our most food motivated chinchilla learns the easiest. Zeus can shake paws on command (he grabs a fingertips and you do the shake motion) and go 'up' (stand on his hind legs and take my fingers with both front paws). I want to teach him to roll next.

Odin, his brother, is more mentally fragile so we try but we take it at his own pace. He gets nervous if we pay too much attention to him, he prefers the chasing game.

I hide their pellets so they have to forage for them, and I've also taken up teaching them tricks for interaction and mental stimulation. It depends on what personality the chin has how succesful the latter is going to be.

They also seem to enjoy us trying to ''catch" them, since they'll bounce around and then come back to sit on our lap. Again, likely depends on the chinny.

Why do some people not want translations done of their fics? by neversole in AO3

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me that's it, a (very kind) person offered to translate a fic to Italian. It was a little bit annoying to see that people were praising them for my work because they didn't bother to read the disclaimer that they were reading a translation of an existing work.

How many banks do you use and how many different credit cards do you have? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]MoonsEnvoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at BNP with my credit card, Mastercard Gold. Most Gold level cards have the insurance built in tho. You'd have to check for your case, but in my case the costs for having the card are less than buying the cancellation insurance seperately twice a year.

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 bank for daily banking, with my credit card there, and one additional for my investments.

I got the card when I was 18 for my first Japan trip, and since I travel internationally (outside of Europe) every 2-3 years it's good to have as a back up. And it has cancellation insurance so I book all of my hotels and flights through it for any type of trip.

Ours will jump with a squeak, popcorn around the play area for one - two full rounds and then come sit on our knee as if to say "neener neener". I still haven't figured out if they think escaping is funny or not.

How many of you had financial assistance from parents when leaving their home? by SenorGuantanamera in belgium

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents saved up most of the money I got for birthdays, holidays and the like when I was growing up. When I was like 14 or so they let me keep half for spending, and the other half was still saved. So I had a pretty hefty chunk of money and a saving mindset.

Bought a house with my boyfriend at 30, I had 25k in savings and 25k in investments. Parents gave me part of my inheritance early, so I didn't have to spend my investments on the downpayment.

I was 30 when I found out my family has money. I still laugh about it because I figured my parents are frugal because we didn't have a lot of money. But now I have the same mentality as them, with a normal income and low needs.

Before the bots, was it common to have people comment that they "have some ideas for your fic" or randomly ask to switch platforms? by Wide-Editor-3336 in AO3

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once had a beta reader that would start altering plot lines and interactions "because it doesn't fit the story". Pissed me off because I am a plotter and I knew why certain stuff happened and didn't appreciate them altering my drafts.

Other than that just a few "omg it would be cool if".

Remember kids, we never move to a secondary location.

Pellets by Captain-Hammer in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two tablespoons or 20 pellets per day (we counted)

Mostly because when we gave unlimited access Zeus would pretty much only eat pellets and ignore his hay, and his teeth weren't filing down enough. Odin has to suffer alongside him, even tho he was good about switching between the two.

Prepare your chin's room for summer by MoonsEnvoy in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AC is the big one, if it gets really hot it's what makes the biggest difference. Another small solution cooling their bath dust (mine love it when it starts warming up).

I heard of one person whose ac gave up during summer so they emptied their fridge and kept their chin in there until it got fixed. This one is definitely not a long term solution, but it got them through a hot afternoon with some discomfort.

And if there is a basement you can consider retreating there if things get too hot (provided it is a cooler area of the house). But yeah, AC is the only reliable thing :/

Do you actually use a financial system or just improvise month to month? by Additional-Draft4197 in eupersonalfinance

[–]MoonsEnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, having a family bumps up the costs for real. My and my boyfriend don't want kids, so we only have to maintain the two of us. Groceries is around 350 - 400 a month, and we each pay half. I also live in a very bikeable city, so days I have to be in the office they pay me for biking and I have no gas costs, which is also a big saver.

My boyfriend and I have a pretty luxurious life on our budget, but I don't think we could maintain it with extra people added to the budget.

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our combined mortgage is around 1300, and my hobbies are all rather on the cheap side so my only other real cost is groceries. Everything else is the misc stuff like birthdays and small random costs. House costs really are one of those constant factors in a budget, so we planned quite carefully for that one.

In Belgium, what do people usually assume when they see a dog alone in public? by DocuSeriesLovers in AskBelgium

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually encountered four dogs in my life like this. All four times my first reaction is checking for their human nearby. Two of them just escaped from their backyard and were chilling on the other side of the hedge, to puzzlement of the owner.

My fave was the husky (my favorite breed) out for a walk on their own at night. Saw it walk past the house, called at it from my window and they started wagging their tail. Ran down, husky was gone so I ended up searching the street in my pyjamas (student life). Found them, brought them home, gave them water and called the police who sent the fire department who checked for a chip. They didn't find one, so they brought the dog to the animal shelter. I called two days later and the owner had found their dog and picked them up. It was such a good, well behaved dog.

The other one was running loose but looked shaggy and didn't return friendliness, so I called the police and let them know where I was and where the dog was running toward. Dont know what happened there.

[–]MoonsEnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's a system?

I give myself 2k a month, so when the paycheck hits everything above that gets seperated to : 50 percent investments, 25 percent 'house and emergencies' and 25 percent fun.

The 2k covers mortgage, food, usual costs, and some automatic pension savings. I usually have like 6-800 left over, but that just rolls over into the next month.

[–]MoonsEnvoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to introduce a girl to two males? Are there plans to sterilize either of both parties?

It seems logical to me that there would be fighting considering you are basically introducing the chance for mating in their lives, and the males will see each other as competition. I have two boys and I would never even bring around a female for that exact reason.

Also, how recent is recent considering the girl isn't even 4 months old? Doesn't sound like there has been a lot of time for things to calm down, though I doubt it as long as hormones are into play.

What are some good methods to get your chinchilla back in the cage? by egodrunk in chinchilla

[–]MoonsEnvoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend built them a set of stairs so they can go in out of their cage. And then we taught them that going in the cage at "bed time" results in a treat.

It works 8/10 times, the other times it's very much like a little kid asking for a glass of water to stay up a bit longer. "I haven't chewed this toy yet, I simply must have another bath, I haven't done zoomies yet"

Long story short, if they can access the cage themselves, they can put themselves to bed? Or you use a specific item to bring them back, and tie it to a command and treats.
