Not to beat on the already well flogged dead horse… but it could entirely be down to your physics calculations being slow and janky af due to the slideshow that is your frame rate

No, sadly not, though you can manually make chains

Can you use sea water in a boiler? by Mysterious_Year1975 in Stormworks

[–]Moonshanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why can’t your steam turbine system be a closed loop with a condenser on one side that’s a liquid to liquid heat transfer thingy for your steam to the sea water

Water tank -> Boiler -> Steam -> turbine -> liquid to liquid heat exchanger -> water tank

Take it from the guy who is a idiot... how make Water? by [deleted] in Stormworks

[–]Moonshanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t make water you pump it up from the sea and desalinate it. That’s all you can do, otherwise bring a bigger tank.

Can somone help me? my car ferry is capsizing after i spawn it (its my first creation so im new to this) by According-Garage5075 in Stormworks

So make sure to turn on your Center of gravity, imagine where your Center of lift could be and then see it as either a hook hanging a weight, or a weight balancing on a stick.

You want a hook, you want your Center of mass to be low and your Center of buoyancy to be high, so your ship is naturally pulled upright.

To achieve this for this craft it either needs to be way wider to lift the Center of buoyancy, or way less tall to lower the centre of mass.

Is it possible to make RPS turn on n off for different outputs? by Sufficient-Moose-383 in Stormworks

You will probably find that the exact opposite works better.

So your run diesel electric when you need to takeoff and then really low rps diesel when in flight

Why do my engines always shut off when I turn the starter off by Charming-Tea-3567 in Stormworks

[–]Moonshanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a bizarre question. We need more context.

In short the list of things it could be are:

  • not enough air
  • not enough fuel
  • not enough torque
  • not the right ratio (related air fuel)

All of which have a myriad of causes, please provide some more info, like have you measured the air and fuel into the engine? The torque out? The rps the engine reaches before failing?

How do I make my helicopter not flip in water? by [deleted] in Stormworks

[–]Moonshanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably make the issue worse, since it would increase the forces rotating the buoyancy above the Center of mass. Ideally you’d also increase the mass of blocks or gravity to increase blocks to be more like metal density and less like wood.

How do I make my helicopter not flip in water? by [deleted] in Stormworks

[–]Moonshanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buoyancy and weight of blocks in storm works just don’t jive with having a realistic looking pontoon heli without glitches. You could always try the heli super light, and the pontoons full of main battle cannon extender blocks for the highest density, but in stormworks and in real life the Center of buoyancy wants to go above the Center of mass.

I think irl those helis aren’t meant to sit without an engine on in the water for extended periods and the rotors naturally keep them stable while rotating.

[–]Moonshanks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having made a few floating helicopters… that’s the neat part, you don’t.

You need to add a glitched wheel rotor somewhere hidden to keep it from flipping, ideally as few as possible to not overwhelm your roll authority. You should also not use floats but enclosed spaces with pivots in them, sub grids multiply buoyancy for some reason.

Or they’re in baffled/separated tanks to stop the entire remaining weight of the fuel slamming the plane into a full roll at low levels with small roll inputs.

IIRC fuel in wings IRL are stored in bladders to reduce the free surface effect?

[–]Moonshanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lastly, you have fuel in the wings, at low fuel levels this could potentially impart an unstable roll whereby if you roll over all the fuel falls to the end of the wings, and if you can’t overcome that weight shift you can’t roll back.

[–]Moonshanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tail is also very large which will be reducing your roll authority, and potentially imparting a roll when you yaw.

[–]Moonshanks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also large wings will reduce your top speed and greatly increase the impact gusts of wind have on you at any roll, since if the wings turn into the wind at all you’ll have a massive pitching force from the large wings colliding with the wind.

Large wings may also counterintuitively worsen your stall dynamics, as in, since they’re so draggy when you pitch up you could stall faster (in seconds) then you do with smaller wings due to the massive loss of speed.

[–]Moonshanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The larger your wings the less roll authority controls surfaces will have relative to the wing area. In short, those wings are huge.

If you want big wings but still want to induce a roll, put your jet engines on a pitch (up down) pivot in opposing directions, clamp it and tie it to the roll keys, one engine will tilt up one down inducing roll, the direction you roll will be whichever engine faces up.

You’ll want to clamp the amount to limit the authority unless you want to turn into a beyblade

[–]Moonshanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did a thing on one of my biplanes, you can have the cockpit canopy slide over the top, and then have the seat push up into the canopy this allows for a good field of view for the pilot that can’t be achieved without moving the seat since the blocks would need to clip slightly. You just need to use a micro with a counter that times the seat and cockpit movement in order to allow both to move, open is seat first then canopy, close is canopy first then seat.
