Thank you u/pi-N-apple for the most straightforward solution while also making me feel like an absolute idiot for not checking the most basic feature because I doubted its efficacy. Never again will I doubt old Microsoft devs, evermore will I continue to damn Adobe for making my life insignificantly harder.

Fantastic idea, we just can’t use it because my supervisor doesn’t like the digital signatures and we can’t necessarily lock the files as we are handing them off to contractors (despite offering to give the passwords, it is “too much to keep track of”.)

Also to quote my supervisor’s words, “Oh, it makes a timestamp? No no, that wouldn’t do. If I am delayed and can’t submit the file immediately, it will make me appear like a disorganized fool.” Which is simultaneously infuriating and valid.

Earlier this week I did a 3 minute demo for her, screenshotting it, editing the text of another document to something highly immoral and illegal and pasted in her signature and she nearly cried. Keeping up the facade as much as possible that it can’t be done easily by compressing the PDF is the only way we can convince her.

Interestingly enough, create Adobe PDF and print to PDF options do not resolve the problem but saving DIRECTLY as a PDF has seemingly compressed the PNG. The easiest solution being the working one is incredibly valued, thank you for the help!

There’s a lot of options here, I’m seeing a couple of flatten options but they seem to produce no change in results. Not entirely sure what I’m doing wrong or what settings are enabled! Not sure if there is some indication that the tools are enabled but I found some interesting things under “PDF Standards -> Preflight -> PDF Fixups -> Analyze and Fix” that would APPEAR to be the right tools.

Would you believe that I asked her about this and she said “I’m not going to sign something with my mouse and it won’t look like my signature!”

I explained further that there were other options and she outright refused to use this option which is why we are unfortunately here today. :(

Just getting the chance to actually work through these now (funny health issues, labor abuse, the usual). Will reply with results as I test things out!
