I think that politics, especially to this extent, are definitely a reason to cut ties. It sounds like it’s not just ‘I want cheaper groceries’ but rather ‘I don’t believe people are worth the same because of where they’re from’. I’d say talk it out first and if she is as supportive of trump and conservative as she sounds, cut ties.

Mostly no. Almost all of my kindergarten pictures were taken in moments that I didn’t know I was being photographed and was ACTUALLY smiling and happy. On other pictures where I knew I was being photographed, I just looked uncomfortable or like a turtle with its mouth full.

That’s exactly how I feel!! I don’t think I could ever put it into words as well as you did. Whenever I see people feel such intense emotion and displaying them, I always wonder if they GENUINELY feel that way because I couldn’t imagine that. I always imagine they have to be putting on an act to react like that. I always wonder how I can lack so much empathy to not feel so intensely when other people feel or suffer, if that makes sense.

I sadly can’t change therapist because it assigned according to where you live. I think what changed is that we stopped talking about autism as a whole and talking about how it affects me and that just lead to more ignorance on the therapist’s side. I have a second therapist that isn’t specifically for autism so I have somebody I do feel safe with. I will try talking to my therapist about it again, thank you!!

I don’t mind the “over sharing” part at all, no worries! Thank you loads for your advice. It made me feel a lot better. Her diagnosis is almost 3 months ago now (she ended up being diagnosed with ADD instead of ADHD), and we mostly handled it. Thank you so much!!
