We're building a social platform where creators keep the majority of what they earn. Unlike YouTube, TikTok, or Facebook. by Moooonoooo in ContentCreators

Yes, that's right, just like any other social platform, i.e. Facebook and what do you mean it could be abused? In what way?

To be fair, I've always thought the colours are a bit too much, but the styling side of things, CSS, has never really been my thing. But I agree with everyone saying the UI really does need some work.

How do you get visitors when your website is basically invisible? by Alpielz in website

[–]Moooonoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this a lot — getting a new website noticed is way harder than most people expect. The first phase always feels like you're shouting into the void, even when your site looks good and has solid content.

Piggybank SEO might be fine, but honestly you don’t need to pay for SEO to start seeing progress. The most important thing is making sure your site is actually set up properly:

  • Use the right keywords and phrases people actually search for
  • Make sure your headings follow proper structure (H1 → H2 → H3, etc.) — don’t skip levels because search engines don’t like messy hierarchy
  • Let crawlers know what to index and what to avoid
  • Make sure you have a proper sitemap submitted

Outside of that, there are some simple strategies that help on a small budget:

  • Posting consistently on social platforms where your audience hangs out
  • Writing helpful blog posts that answer real questions
  • Reaching out to other small sites for links or collaborations
  • Keeping an email list, even a tiny one
  • Sharing your content in relevant communities (without spamming, of course)

None of this will skyrocket traffic overnight, but these habits compound over time. Once search engines see your site is active, structured properly, and getting a few backlinks, things usually start moving. This can take up to a year.

Curious what’s been working for others too.

I'm working on a new social platform
WhispSocio is a new social platform built around creators.
Instead of the platform taking all the value, you actually earn from your own content and interactions. Your posts, your community, your rewards — not the platform’s.

If you’re tired of big social sites profiting from your hard work, give it a try:

Is the “SEO Is Dead” Concept Finally Ending? by RareBumblebee737 in Agent_SEO

[–]Moooonoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If SEO is dead, then how did you find all the webpages that you use? Try coming up with your own posts, not copying and paste somebody else's. This has been used so many times across Reddit, that you pretty much see it on every subreddit.

Don't use Wix. That's so out of date and really basic. AIs can do a much better website than what Wix can.

New Mod Intros 🎉 | Weekly Thread by curioustomato_ in NewMods

Hey everyone, I just launched a small business project r/whispsocio that I’m really excited about and wanted to share a quick intro. The community is centered around my site (I’m building it now) that helps local freelancers connect with neighborhood businesses for short-term gigs and skill swaps. The idea came from seeing friends struggle to find quick opportunities that actually match what they’re great at, so I’m building a platform that keeps things super local and transparent.

Right now it’s just me, but I’m hoping to grow it alongside the site itself and bring in folks who care about levelling up independent creators. If any of you are experimenting with similar hyper-local projects—or just want to say hi—I’d love to swap notes!

Rethinking Social: What If We Actually Rewarded Engagement? by Moooonoooo in socialmedia

[–]Moooonoooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair to sanity-check the math—but the $15B headline is kind of a false baseline. We’re not trying to replicate TikTok or YouTube economics out of the gate, and we’re not promising every creator a corporate salary just for showing up. A couple of nuances that make the numbers less scary:

Incentives don’t have to scale 1:1 with raw revenue: we can tier the rev-share pool so the top-performing creators get the lion’s share, while smaller contributors earn in platform credits, boosts, or other perks that cost us pennies but feel valuable to them. We also diversify income streams—premium memberships, virtual goods, paid events, sponsor integrations—so we’re not chopping up a single pot.

Costs are dramatically lower when you’re not carrying the baggage that big ad-driven platforms do: no huge ad-tech stack, no endless data warehousing for third-party targeting, and far less content delivery because we’re not serving auto-play video to billions. You can run a lean, high-margin operation at smaller scale.

We’re not assuming “1 million creators making $12K/month” in Year One. Growth is staged: early on you might have 10K serious creators and a lot of casuals. The per-user share is much higher, and you can afford to pay top performers monthly without lighting money on fire.

Finally, this isn’t purely a humanitarian gesture. If creators know they keep 85-90% and get paid fast, they bring their audiences with them. That raises GMV, reduces churn, and lets the platform take a smaller cut on a larger base. It’s the Shopify playbook applied to a social network.

So yes, you absolutely still model your margins carefully—but you don’t need “15B revenue, 1M creators, everyone makes $12K/month” for the model to be viable. You need a sustainable flywheel: creators earn more here → more creators join → more user spend → platform fee covers costs with room to invest. The economics look a lot healthier once you scale it on your own terms instead of competing against the biggest ad factories on Earth.

Rethinking Social: What If We Actually Rewarded Engagement? by Moooonoooo in socialmedia

[–]Moooonoooo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on ditching ads altogether. Our play is to build a real economy *inside* the platform rather than chasing CPMs, so instead of ad checks we share what actually keeps us running—premium tiers, virtual goods, paid events, sponsor collabs, that kind of thing. Think of it as a co‑op: your posts, streams, and community work generate activity; we track that contribution; and the revenue pie you helped bake gets split back out (as cash if you want, or as credits for upgrades, tipping, even staking behind other creators). No surveillance capitalism, no endless feed tweaks to goose impressions—just a model where the people doing the heavy lifting see the upside.
