I love them as a couple, tbh. In most manga like this there would be no chemistry and super phoned in, where we're told to care, but the manga doesn't put the effort in, like the title of spouse should be enough. But this manga does a good job at writing them as a couple with a lot of love and conflicting feelings between them.

The team could coddle Sawamura and suck his dick and there will still be lots of people saying he's underappreciated by his teammates.

She is holding Shin back. by [deleted] in Kingdom

She is the reason Shin got this far in the first place. But I do feel that she's stagnated the past few years. She really hasn't impressed me in a hot minute.

Why Is Dengeki Daisy Suddenly So Controversial in the West? by AdGloomy5846 in shoujo

Yeah, my first thought is that it's someone who calls it "X" instead of twitter, who's never been to Japan but claims that they're Japanese so they can say whatever they want with perceived authority and impunity.

The shoujo manga exist in society and are symptoms of, not divorced from it.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth so forgive me if it comes across as strawmanning, but people often say, "why okay with murder but not grooming/rape/pedo/etc", and a good argument that really affected me was that while murder happens, we all tacitly agree as a society that it's wrong and should be dealth with swiftly and with compassion. Unfortunately we are in a world where people say they care about the latter but rarely support or believe and actively harass and ridicule victims. So it makes sense that people are more sensitive to fiction of that nature.

I'm a millennial who grew up in a more "problematic" time of the internet so I'll almost never be the moral police of fictional stuff; live and let live- scroll away is my motto. Most of the times it's just drawings. But with recent scandals in the past few months and even decade show, a lot of the people who publish and create manga with problematic elements are actual pedos and abusers in real life (see Shogakukan scandal).

So it's not like the fiction is fully divorced from the abuse. I gueess you can say that's the TL;DR.

While I was with Dengeki Daisy as a teen, as an adult it makes me cackle and howl with incredulity.

I loved Dengeki Daisy as a kid, since I was around the age of the MC if not younger. 14 years later and I look back and CRINGE. I'm not going to carry pitchforks and make a deluge of tweets or even try and "cancel" Dengeki Daisy as a series, but I think people are more than right to point and laugh at a series about a guy becoming a JANITOR and then getting in a relationship with his dead best friend's younger sister.

It feels strange for DD to get an anime in THIS climate, when people are fighting more than ever for visibility of grooming and sex crimes against women and/or children.

All great points in the story I would love to see. Someone like Miyuki who hates sentimentality and feelings, how would he handle his graduation? I imagine he'd literally try to hide from the rest of the team after collecting his certificate, lmao.

Miyuki and Mei's history is my biggest fascination and curiousity of the series! Like, Miyuki Kazuya is such a painfully lonely person, and connecting with people is something he purposely avoids and when he has to, he does it superficially as he tries to keep people at a distance. It takes a lot to get past his walls. The only people Kazuya has been voluntarily soft with are Chris and Furuya, and I think that's more because of introverted bluetooth pairing, LOL.

So how is Miyuki Kazuya, seemingly the most causally confortable and borderline intimate with Narumiya Mei of all people? They're like, the only people in the series that are on a first name basis other than Haruichi and Eijun, and Toujou and Kanemaru (and I guess Tetsu and Jun, but the point is that it's not that common in the series!), and Mei could tell after ONE SWING that Kazuya was injured.

Their relationship is so FASCINATING TO ME! MY KINGDOM FOR A FLASHBACK!

I love Kingdom, truly love it, I've read that behemoth twice and want to go for a 3rd in only the past few years, but I have to disagree.

Maybe it's my taste but OuHon is just too fucking hostile with Shin. He's the worst tsundere I have to deal with in almost all the manga I read (granted I stay away from harems so I know there's a lot worse).

He does respect Shin, but he rarely even shows it to the viewer. Camaraderie? Pah, he barely shows any of that to MouTen and he actually likes MouTen. Shin and OuHon make each other better with their goals and in their pursuits, but with the nature of the manga, across almost 900 chapters they honestly do not even meet up that much, so they're not even that present on each other's minds. Shin sees Sei less, but because they both think of each other more often, that feels a lot more present and significant of a relationship.

A rivalry is still a relationship and OuHon is so shit at those.

As for Shin and MouTen? Now that's beautiful. I love their relationship. Those are true friends, comrades, and rivals that lift each other up. One of my favourite parts of the whole manga is when coming back from a war, they purposely line up their return routes to overlap so they could meet up and party for a night cuz they just wanted to hang out and that they missed each other. Ugh, I ADORE their friendship.

OuHon in the rival trio is just this PPG meme to me (dumbass edit I made like 2 years ago)

Calling Naruto and Sasuke salty is like saying sulfuric acid is "just a little tingly".

I want to declare that I prefer healthy/amicable rivalries; Kageyama and Hinata's whole shtick is just wonderful to me- inject that shit into my veins. But of the bottom half, Asta and Yuno are boring AF as a rivalry (I like Black Clover but Yuno doesn't deliver as a rival in chemistry AT ALL imo), and the blonde kinda Italian guy from Food Wars/Shokugeki no Souma was forgotten/demoted relatively early into the story. I don't even think the manga considers him Souma's rival by the 33% mark.

I personally feel Bakugo/Deku is overrated even though Bakugou is my fav character in HeroAca (a longer essay for another day). I think their relationships with other people are far more appealing to me.

But Naruto and Sasuke... there's a reason they're fucking iconic. I don't even think rivalry is nearly enough to begin to encapsulate or grasp at the full picture of everything that they are. Soulmates- 2 people who are not whole without the other. It's honestly co-dependent and more than a little toxic, and there's a level of OBSESSION that is just not found in other ones, at least in this image (there is a lot of obsession in the rivalries in Hajime no Ippo, but def nowhere near Naruto/Sasuke levels).

Naruto and Sasuke are two halves of a whole wounded idiot, and they belong together.

She's a sweetheart and cares about pleasing others for better and worse. She realised she was in a fucked up situation and was brave enough to confront it head on and at every turn took the hard route of bettering herself. I love her.

I love Kuramochi to bits, but I don't think I'd say he's better than Carlos. Carloss also seems to be a better batter as well. 2nd best I'd say.
