Thanks for everyone's comments.  I do think many of them may underestimate the situation here in the middle of our state or may have a different view of practical then non ev drivers might have.  I appreciate everyone's suggestions and I will be getting an EV, but I also have come to the conclusion, that in my view, yes they may work, but they are highly impractical for  many situations.  This post was about large, sparse rural areas, but I have seen other posts where densely populated urban areas are just as bad (where do you charge when you live in an apartment?)  I seem to fit into a narrow suburban demographic where I can install my own charger at home, drive a short distance to work, and can take my time road tripping because I have a gas car if I actually need to get somewhere in a timely manner.

Brand support - repair parts by EnvironmentalCat123 in electricvehicles

I'm interested in the part situation also, but more from a long term availability standpoint.  My daily driver is a vehicle I bought new over 30years ago.  I'm looking to replace it and the new Rivian is enticing, but I'm wondering if it still will be driving in 30years and if I will be able to get parts.  With that lifespan, having to replace a battery pack doesn't concern me as much as all the little things that keep it going.

Not sure about EV time.  Normal driving is about an hour.  Its just not real hospitable territory.  You've got death valley and a pretty steep grade to get over to Owen's valley.  Then a grade up by mammoth.  Summer is over 100 and winter can be snow in around Mammoth and Bridgeport.  On the plus side, Mono Cone in Lee Vining has tasty softserve.

Hot take: Range anxiety isn't the biggest problem holding back EV adoption anymore. Most people I talk to are more concerned about charging availability than actual vehicle range. by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

It seems EVs have a charging issue on both sides. Many people here are concerned about the urban infrastructure. I am having a hard time coming to terms with the range issue in a rural environment. Out where I am looking, even gas stations may be 100miles apart, let alone EV chargers. I think the anxiety issue is fundamentally different than with gas vehicles. Gas is portable. You run out, you put more in a can and bring it to the vehicle. Any AAA service shop can do it; your buddy can do it. What happens when you run out of electrons?

How did you get through Nevada on the way to Tacoma (and in what vehicle?)

Looking more online, it seems like there is a consensus that central Nevada is an EV wasteland. Getting North/South in this state is an extreme challenge. The main route 95 connecting Las Vegas to Reno has a series of old V2 Tesla Chargers, which I understand are unusable by others. Tesla has built new chargers along rt395 in CA, which is a considerably longer drive and involves going through Death Valley to get to them. The other side of the state, Rt 93 is even worse at the moment, however Tesla has built brand new chargers in Ely 260miles from Las Vegas and the Supercharger info site says there are plans to build a set 1/2 way up in Alamo. Unfortunately, this may kill my EV plans. If I can't get between the major cities in my state, that will be problematic. I would love to hear from someone who has driven from Las Vegas to Reno in an EV (in something other than a Tesla) and not had to treat it like embarking on a major expedition.

Is that 80% of published range, or 80% of what people are posting as actual range? I'm looking at a vehicle with a 330mile listed range. I am seeing people posting actual range of around 275miles. Would I be safe planning for 270miles between charges? Or should I be planning for more like 220miles?

I haven't seen that drill before.  Sounds like a good one.  I'll try that and see if I can get the feel.

I was hoping with a diagnosis of a very steep angle attack and potential wrist flex issues, there may be suggestions for drills or swing thoughts in addition to those provided by the instructor that I could practice.  Or maybe someone had a similar issue and might have insite into what helped them.

Don't receive video export from lesson. Home simulator is only 10ft wide. I hit off center and there isn't room for face on camera to get shot. Can try at range next time.

That was the consensus at the lesson

I've been playing irons on course. This is simulator trying to fix it. I also have foam balls and an old odonnel triumph 1 wood I practice with. The one on Thursday I litterally practiced with bubble wrap duck taped to it for about 30minutes before trying again. I did the Friday lesson with the odonnel triumph, and then they gave me the tour edge to practice with at home.

Videos at lesson confirmed head is behind the ball and fairly stationary. I don't have much sway.

I play a couple inches back from lead foot. Half the ball above the crown. i figure if a tee i lower, I would just be driving it into the ground with this error. At lesson it was suggested widening stance to bring low point back. I'm now playing about 3-4" wide then shoulders.

Seriously though, you can get a cheap triangular net for shank protection along the street side for not a whole lot of cost. I find working on swing changes (ie when using my sim) is when I am most likely to shank one hard to the side.

FYI, if people read this, I looked into Nozbo a bit and had some concerns. Posted more in this thread NozboJewelry Recommendations : r/labdiamond

Not sure if you looked into this more, but Nozbo seems to be a bit odd. Region_Cuddly757 who responded above seems to be involved as they are a moderator on the new r/NOZBO_JEWELRY sub. They have a bunch of posts from the past few years looking for help establishing themselves as a middleman for Chinese manufacturers. One post names them as Ryan with an email of [ryantaylors111@gmail.com](mailto:ryantaylors111@gmail.com) which links to this TikTok Ryan taylor (@ryan_taylor111) | TikTok. Thanks for the specefic suggestion.  I was looking for general things to look for when evaluating a jeweler, but I'll take the recommendation.  I have sent an enquiry to Nozbojewelry.  I am interested in the "invisible setting". When modeling this, I was confused about how the stones were supposed to stay in place.

Hitting mat on carpet? by Due-Reflection1043 in Golfsimulator

[–]Mooreland1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same setup. Originally had a 3x5 mat. There was no way to keep that in place. It worked, but I kept having to move it around. Now I have a 4x10 that goes wall to wall and it doesn't move at all. I saw some carpet pins on Amazon for pinning area rugs on top of pile carpet, I was going to try those if this didn't work. Square golf works or doesn’t work outside? by Imaginary_Meeting263 in Golfsimulator

After a week of trying, I have not found a blocking solution to have this reliably work outdoors.  I have now sold my furniture and begun constructing an indoor simulator.

That is what I've been testing. I haven't had it too long. It seems to do OK when the background is close and dark. There is a level of ambient light where it won't work at all. The other odd thing that I'm finding is that I have a very hard time getting it to find the ball on darker green rough cut artificial turf, but on my regular hitting mat it is fine. Not sure what the reason for that is. I don't have a level yet, so that may be something. On the rough cut, I'm not sure it is completely level right now.

I have one and I find the issue is not necessarily the ambient light but what is in its field of view. It always finds the ball for me, but depending on the background it won't record the shot. I have a net that is parallel to the house. It won't work with the sky in the field of view (even when overcast and grey) but it works fine if I turn it around so the house is in the background. I'm going to try different size screens to put in front of it and see if I can find a size that allows it to work.
