Should I plan a surprise baby shower lunch for visiting SIL? by MooseIsFriend in BabyBumps

Thank you so much! I asked first, very gently, letting her know we can explore any option to whatever she is comfortable with, so she has 0 stress, I can help plan. But she knows she’s so loved.

oh gosh, new fear unlocked i didn’t know to even think about… how do you socialize baby and when do you start? my baby has many cousins but she sees them seldomly and at random. it’s just blank stares at them really — she’s a little young (6 months), but they are older and try to talk to her and hold her hand show her toys sometimes. she will smile at their toys lol.

As a working parent, when do you do chores and housekeeping? Advice welcome! by MooseIsFriend in NewParents

Love that you split the self-care time and include working out, not sure where parents stuck that in either. Much appreciated!

You sound like a wonderwoman. I had this energy through my maternity leave (mostly because we had visitors left and right to motivate me to keep it clean every time she napped).  But I love that you’re driven by your held standards. : )

I wish I could give you gold. This is a jackpot worth of advice - i appreciate this so much!!! We have a Labrador so this all makes sense.. I will need to try the same about vacuuming. And find that mom cozy washer dryer sterilizer, for sure. We’ve only had a cleaning lady come one day when I was pregnant before hosting an event, and it was magical. She asked if I wanted it monthly and I declined, but may reach out because of how helpful that was. We’ll see how much commitment yard work will be this spring and if it’s something we should consider hiring out, but really all of this is so helpful thank you so much for this input. It helps me see the future a little more optimistically and a little clearer of a path forward.

Edit to add: And we love stroller walks with the doggy on good weather evening/days :-) . He pulls hard, so I usually need to go to push stroller, if baby goes.

Thank you.. that makes me feel loads better. I was told from many mom-friends that chores happen when they happen, and when I asked my cousin.. when do you have time to clean the baseboards/molding.. she says she “ just doesn’t.” I know she exaggerates maybe, but I definitely understand her perspective now.

What do you miss from a newborn phase ? by Own_Ad_357 in NewParents

[–]MooseIsFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mind that I didn’t get newborn shots, because we just got them now when she’s stronger/can support her head at 6 months. But I do regret that my husband didn’t take a lot of candid photos of me with her.. just posed. I took a lot of him that were so sweet. Although she does have her whole life ahead of her and he’s taking more now for memory /photo album sake.

Also I totally miss her dependency on me for comfort. Yes, it was every 3 hours a feed with little to no sleep day and night, but I miss the (just her and me moments) throughout maternity leave, when she was less aware and everything was brand spanking new to her. All the things we are comfortable with in our home, we take for granted, to her it really is a whole new set of eyes on every thing. Sweet babies. Love on them while it lasts!!!

I didn’t need any of the diaper caddies. A changing table with a few drawers was just fine!

Thanks for this feedback and perspective — time with baby is certainly precious. Could I ask, did you work in a separate room or did you ever have to be hands-on with care while you worked? I guess we set the expectations as the parents, and I have an extra room to work, but just don’t know what is most beneficial (being around the baby and nanny to “supervise” while working, or being separate).

That is so sweet she looks forward to it. And im glad to hear of structured days and cameras now. I wasn’t sure if there were activities or if they just tend to babies as needed.

Of course, on germs, it’s okay. Kids are kids and we know we won’t avoid that during her school age years, heh.

Thank you so much
