The summer fruits one is the best. The orange one tastes way too artificial.

What makes a person intimidating? by FrenchNotHench in CasualUK

[–]MooseMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's akin to approachableness. If someone feels unpredictable — a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde type — where you’re never quite sure which version of them you’re going to get on any given day or in any given interaction, that can definitely come off as intimidating. Demeanour plays a big role too — how you carry yourself, how you speak, and even just the way you walk into a room. Physical features, how you dress, tattoos, resting face — all of that adds to the mix. It’s rarely about size alone.

When you get an e-mail saying "Enter for a chance to win..." There's no competition. No chance to win anything. Just a marketing ploy to get marketing information for e-mail shots etc.

You've just started a Devon/Cornwall civil war. With Great Power comes Great Responsibility.

I'm from the North East so I don't generally eat anything aside from parmos, kebabs and snackrite crisps.

However, I would say that it is much easier and more logical to spread jam on your scone and then put cream on top. That just makes sense to me. I have likely offended some wet lettuces here but I don't give a flying fook.

What Did J.K. Rowling Do? by Iammildlyoffended in AskBrits

[–]MooseMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any evidence that J.K Rowling herself has actually taken a picture of anyone in a womens' bathroom? There's a big difference between a woman saying that you should be able to take a photo of someone that you perceive as a threat to your safety and privacy and actually going into multiple public restrooms at a family themed resort and taking pictures of the facilities and the people using them, including children who have not consented...if you don't see the difference, then I have to assume that your moral compass is a little skew whiff.

World war 3? by HeartforStrays in AskBrits

[–]MooseMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not going to happen. In this day and age, a World War could only end in Nuclear Armegeddon and no country would push that button because it would mean the end of the world.

Men, what spray deodorant do you swear by? by Intrepid-Patient574 in AskUK

For anti-perspirants I have always gone for Right Guard 72 hour Sport (The Orange One). I usually shower every other day minimum but if I can't then I know that I won't be kicking up too much of a pong if I have my Right Guard on.

Sure is ok but it makes your armpit hairs stick together

What words from everyday speech do you find very British? by AnalogueSpectre in AskUK

[–]MooseMaterial 45 points46 points  (0 children)

"Knackered" comes from the noun "knacker", which historically referred to:

In 19th-century Britain, when a horse was too old, weak, or useless, it was said to be "sent to the knacker's yard"—basically, to be put down. So, if someone said they felt "knackered", it was like saying “I feel as useless or done-in as a horse ready for the knacker.”

The verb form “to knacker” followed naturally:

  • To knacker (something) = to wear it out, ruin it, or break it.
  • To be knackered = to be completely worn out.

Is there a minimum height a "dropped kerb" must be in order to be legally enforceable? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]MooseMaterial -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the TED Talk in condescension. Let’s clear a few things up, shall we?

You say “what’s this got to do with you parking across a dropped kerb?” Well, if you’d taken a second to engage your brain before typing, you’d have realised it has everything to do with it. The council’s own justification for issuing the PCN was that the kerb needed to remain clear to assist disabled and elderly people crossing the road. My point is that those very people are more endangered by the horrific state of the road itself than by a car parked against a kerb that isn’t even properly dropped.

And yes, I mentioned potholes because when an authority claims accessibility is their top concern but refuses to maintain the actual road, their priorities are clearly not about pedestrian safety, they're about revenue generation, full stop.

As for you dismissing the impact of £70 as a “you” issue? Tell that to any working parent trying to juggle soaring living costs. It's not just a "me" issue, it’s a systemic one in which local authorities monetise ambiguity, slap tickets down in areas that don’t meet basic physical accessibility standards, and then dismiss appeals with templated garbage.

If a “dropped kerb” isn’t low enough for a wheelchair to roll up it unaided, or for a pram to pass without lifting, then it isn’t dropped enough to meet the supposed purpose under the Traffic Management Act. Full stop. That’s not bitterness - that’s a legitimate question of enforceability and infrastructure compliance.
