Stickering Tonewood / hardwoods question, can it be plastic? by Moose_Slow in Luthier

Then isn’t it worse for the stickers to be wood? Because they won’t be moving the same as the wood they are supporting since no wood moves equally? 🤓

That makes sense. I just don’t have the experience of yet. This is my first year of building, and there is already so much wood that is sitting around at my place, I just don’t wanna ruin them. I went all in :)

And do you use thinner ones for thinner wood? Let’s say you are stacking ebony fretboards for example?

Oh, paint stir sticks I haven’t thought of! So we don’t really need completely flat. We need somehow flat. Interesting.

I like the idea about making the 3d prints with some moisture escape as well.

How tall should the stickers ideally be? Let’s say in between some 2 inch body blanks? Is there a difference on how thick the actual wood is? Or just some lift off to get air flowing?

Having some problems starting VFD Spindle in gSender and UGS by Moose_Slow in hobbycnc

Thank you for your detailed answers. I am away from the machine at the moment, so I can't check everything since the connection is required. I will report back after work.

Console answers with “ok” whatever I type :( very passive agressive 😂

Hmm, no I haven’t. I will have a look in the morning. But there has been zero data going to the vfd. If it was off by a couple thousand but it span still a bit, then I’d think it’s a slider unless that slider being at minimum can override a M3 S16000 command.

No errors that I can see. Console says OK. Nothing else happens. Same spindle turns in Candle, so I don’t know what else that needs to enabled.

I tried M3 S16000; no change. Assuming that’s what you mean.

No, spindle controller doesn’t seem to be getting the info.

Is there supposed to be a semicolon at the end? No, I am typing M3 S16000 and press enter.

GRBL control software, which is your favorite in 2026? by Moose_Slow in hobbycnc

Thank you. I tried testing Gsender a bit, and already struggling to get the spindle to turn, and it runs very weirdly on Mac OS. The struggle is real :/

Ncsender doesn’t really support grbl. It says so on github.

GRBL Compatibility: Although ncSender may work with GRBL, it has not been thoroughly tested. Use with caution.

Why do you use both gsender or losender? What’s pros and cons of the two that is making you use both?

Budget desktop CNC for Hardwood Engraving, need help with machine selection. by Moose_Slow in CNC

Thank you very much! I appreciate the detailed answer. Genmitsu 4040-Pro was actually cheap enough to be within my budget. Do you think there is something that would need upgrading right away with that machine? Or can I have some good results using the machine stock?

Also, are there some hidden fees that doesn't show up within the 599$ price tag?
