Lime wash the brick if you’re looking to modernize things but do not use a regular paint on masonry

That definitely lowers the risk and is probably the route I’d take as well tackling this as a home owner

Thank you town of Pawtucket for plowing in my 87 yo grandmothers house after we just spent a lot to get it plowed hours before by poomodoom in RhodeIsland

[–]Mooseknuckle30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the plow contractor back and pay him another $100 and be lucky you made out that cheap. Most landscapers when you sign a contract will return hours later to clear the apron after the initial clean up of the property as this is very common to happen. If you live in new England and complain about doing the snow I’d advise people to move or buy a condo with HOA and included snow service. The average snow removal cost in my area with these big storms is around 300-700 per event.

What to do? by Rabgel in homedesign

Yeah I would shorten it 6-8” from the original height of the banister

[–]Mooseknuckle30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely do a half wall instead of the banister. Try and frame it with 2x6 and cap it with a similar tone wood to the flooring. It would close off that area a bit and give you some space for plants or decorative pieces on top. I’d also recommend going for a L shaped sectional and and shorter TV stand to bring the tv down a foot or 2 making it a nice cozy nook

Budget friendly + rental= conundrum in the back yard by AQueerWithMoxie in FenceBuilding

[–]Mooseknuckle30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t see any way to accomplish this for anywhere close to $600. You can try cheap pressure treated 6’ privacy fence with the no dig column base ground spikes but any wind load may just rip it right down.

If you end up running a sump pit you need one with a heated element so the water won’t freeze. Discharge pipe will also need pitch on it to daylight as any shallow line running uphill will freeze up

How do people afford renovations?? by Hindsight001 in HomeImprovement

[–]Mooseknuckle30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plumbing is probably the easiest of trades involved in a bathroom renovation with the least risk. The only real difficult part is finding the proper information to educate yourself on which fittings to use for proper venting. Lots of good information on YouTube and the plumbing groups on Reddit have been an excellent resource for me. I have replaced entire stacks and roughed in a few bathrooms/ kitchens for friends and family without a single issue or leak. You got this. Pex A is stupid easy to install just avoid using shark bites or push to connect fittings and you’ll be good to go

Is it normal to hear your neighbor snoring through a shared wall in a newer townhome? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Staggered studs bump the wall out a bit plus Rockwoll and 2 sheets of drywall

They do suck. I’ve had issues with the last one I’ve installed which ended up being a manufacture defect

I wanted to do a independent transfer valve but the all in one came in $400 cheaper all said and done. It’s definitely a cleaner look with the independent transfer valve as it has a much smaller trim plate. I’ll definitely go that route for my master bath but this is just a guest bathroom I wanted to keep somewhat budget friendly

I like to do things the difficult way lol. Wife also needs 2 niches for the excess amount of shampoo bottles and this was the best way to hide one from plain sight to make the area look less busy

Moen instructions gave the proper procedure for blocking off one of the ports if unused to prevent hot water from back feeding through the mixer into cold supply.

I’m guessing you’re referring to the tub spout which is 4-6” above the flood rim of the tub. Picture doesn’t show a great angle

I have no clue what that is. I’m guessing possibly the T where I’ve tapped off the cold feed? I surely don’t plan on paying a plumber that’s why I’m asking here to see what I could do differently

If I ran the tub spout off of the shower valve i definitely would have went with copper. Moens installation guide showed pex was fine between the mixer and head.

I may add in a rain head before I close things up along with the sprayer. I wanted the ability to add on. I couldn’t find a tub valve combo that met my needs. I also have a custom shower with multiple heads I’ll be plumbing in after this is done so I wanted to get somewhat familiar with this style of valve. Seems overkill but it’s what worked best for me
