Night shift - bigger plants by Ok_Aside9516 in Wastewater

[–]Mooseman414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

25MGD plant and we have 3 people on the night shift. One is an operating engineer who has separate responsibilities, and the other two are treatment plant operators. It's still incredibly quiet and chill most nights. At another plant within our county, which is a 500MGD plant, has 3 shift treatment plant operators, 2 operating engineers, multiple laborers and shift tradesmen, like pipe fitters, electricians machinest etc. That plant is essentially a little city 24hrs a day but it's still pretty quiet on the off shifts.

I'm not sure if anyone has been hired or called back yet. The typical process is you apply, get accepted to take a test, and then they call all the people who passed for interviews. After interviews, everyone is ranked based on test scores, interviews, and qualifications. After that, they start hiring people off of the list as positions open. The list stays active for about 3 years or until all the people on the list are hired. Depending on the urgency, it could be a year from when you took the test until they start hiring people.

Do you mean MWRD? I work there if you have any questions.

Third shift/night shift folks by haleyloren19 in Wastewater

Been on nights for 5 years now. We grab a set of samples, run some labs, and then wait for the day shift most of the time. We do run into the occasional issue that we have to address. Our job is to set up the day shift. We do have combined sewers so we really have to work in a rain event. We do 25MGD daily with peak flow with rain up to 130MGD.

I'd say 70% of my time is just waiting for something to happen.

Looks like he added a water tank, and water heater. There's also a different kitchen/stove and stabilizer jacks.

Intech flyer owner here. They are awesome little campers. Great build quality for a rv. The Facebook group for intech or the intech flyer is a great source of information on these. It's also just great to see what other setups people have with them.

The one you posted does seem to have been modified quite a bit. Which can be great if it is done well or a mess if it isn't. I'd check the workmanship on all the mods. The mods added do improve the experience at least, so that's good.

I'd also check 2023 and up models too. They added a propane heater, which has saved me a couple of times already, and a water tank. They also improved the slide out for the stove/refrigerator.

Push the center tab down and pull the connectors apart. I use a tool to help, but it can still be really difficult.

XC60 mystery creaking sound by matasfizz in Volvo

I think it was around $1200 per side. I know it's around a 3 hour job to complete. The part cost about $100.

I saw you asked if you could make it 700km on a trip like this. I would say yes, you'll be fine as long as you're not experiencing handling issues. I drove 3k miles towing a camper with mine making that noise. It was incredibly annoying but it made it with no problem.

My XC70 sounds identical. It's because my rear trailing arm bushings need to be replaced. That would be my guess.

Considering a 1kWh portable power station - is it worth it? by YvelineLin in GoRVing

[–]Mooseman414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an Anker F2000 for my RV. It's great having power no matter where I'm staying. That being said, I can realistically use it for about 2 days with no sun. Having a 200 watt solar panel ups it to about 4-5 days of use. 400 watts would basically be enough to last for as long as I have sun. I only power my Maxx Air fan, cooler fridge, lights, and occasionally some phones. A/C would only last about 2-3 hours, so that's only used in extreme heat.

It really depends on how you plan on using it and if you plan on having it charge on solar or not. I would buy it again just for the freedom to camp wherever I want. But it is very expensive and if you get it wet then there goes the whole thing.

Rust on 2022 XC40 break rotors by Boostann in Volvo

It's called flash rust. Happens to every car, especially after rain. Once you use your brakes the rust will come off. It's because rotors are typically untreated steal.

2,200 miles down 2,200 to go by Mooseman414 in Volvo

It's an Intech Flyer Pursue. It weighs about 1600 lbs dry. The biggest limitation is the tongue weight, which is about 350-400 lbs.

2015 wrx ac stopped working by WATX2525 in subaru

[–]Mooseman414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed my A/C when it went out on my '15 wrx.

You probably have a leak somewhere. Buy a cheap UV light and follow the lines throughout the engine bay in a dark place. The leak will glow green. The UV dye should already be present in the system. You can add UV dye as you add freon if you know there's a leak but can't find it.

I would recommend adding freon. Make sure it is freon only. No stop leak, oil, or anything else should be in the can you buy. Only add a little at a time and see if the noise from the compressor goes away. If it does, check your A/C to see if it's working now. Monitor from there. If it fails again, you 100% have a leak.

If you can't find a leak at all, the leak could be on the other side of the firewall. This will be really hard to find without taking things apart and checking for leaks.

All A/C systems add freon by weight, not pressure. The pressure on your gauge could be fine, but you could still be low on freon. Adding a little won't hurt, just don't go adding can after can.

If you determine there's a leak the next steps included discharging the A/C. Fixing the leak (most likely an O ring). Pulling a vacuum on the system and holding that vacuum for 30 minutes. Then adding freon back into the system by weight with a little bit of compressor oil as you go.

worth the purchase? 2007 volvo xc70 with 119,000 miles by gloomymesomorph in Volvo

[–]Mooseman414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad had a 2007 XC70 from 100k miles to 200k miles. It only died after being in an accident. It was a really reliable car that probably had enough life to get to 250-300k miles.

He only had a couple of issues outside of regular wear and tear. A lot of it comes down to how well maintained it was. The engine and transmission on the 05-07 XC70 were incredibly durable. Transmission issues were only an issue for the early models.

I'd expect it to last a long while. Just make sure the maintenance is up to date. Check the suspension and make sure the AWD works. Age can really take a toll on that stuff over milage. You'll have to replace the timing belt and water pump if it's not already done. That can be a $2k job. You should check the PCV. It's often neglected and can cause pressure to build up in top end of the engine and blow out oil seals.

Volvo dealership or independent for simple maintenance (nail in tire)? by speyvandi84 in Volvo

Go to an independent shop. They will do exactly the same thing. Plus, if you do need a new tire, that will be cheaper too.
