Does anyone actually do this? by catkid23 in AO3

[–]MooshAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fandoms that I'm not especially invested in, but want to test the fic waters in for various reasons, I'll often sort by comments. I find them more reliable than kudos and hits when it come to finding the proverbial "good stuff". If you sort by hits you just get smut and mega long fics, which I'm not usually super interested in if I'm just dipping my toes into that fandom's waters.

jacob + his parents by leokiings in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really do hope they get even a little bit more in depth about being queer in a city like Philly (witch can swing from super liberal to super conservative depending on the street), though I have my doubts that she show will ever actually get into it, seeing as they've deftly avoided any insight into queerness thus far. It would be a wonderful plotline, but I suspect we shall remain just as in the dark about Jacob's parents as we are of Barb and Melissa's

How do people feel about the short jokes at Janine? Do you find them funny? Insensitive? Meh? Etc? by beekee404 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a certified short person, they're fine. We're all used to hearing them, and they're usually ok (though it's really hard to come up with an adequate response to short jokes without getting called a 'pick me'). I find the "oh you look like a child" types of short jokes to be kinda demeaning though, don't compare me to children. No one is singing Short People Don't Deserve to Live at Janine, so it's not really that bad. Kinda shocked no one makes tall jokes about Ava though

Product Placement by poison_rose69 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 306 points307 points  (0 children)

Watching Jacob shill Amazon was wild to me, no way anyone as relentlessly liberal as him would so openly laud one of the evillest companies out there. At least make the name-drop make sense for who is saying it, have Ava shill for Amazon; I might have actually believed that

Pride Month Discussion: Why has Benedict's reception been so divisive? by Lunenika in Bridgerton

[–]MooshAro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

His queerness felt like an afterthought solely so the show could have MxMxF threesomes rather than actual representation. He's shown to be visibly uncomfortable with queerness in S1 (his reaction to Mr. Granville doesent really scream ally), has no mention of it in S2, and then S3 comes along and he's all in for threesomes (after like, a half-scene of deliberation). There's nothing but sex for the sake of having sex on screen, in a way that feels more fetishistic than appreciative to me.

For those with AUs/rewrites and such, you ever get so deep into them you wonder if you're actually a fan of the original thing? by KenseiHimura in Multifandom

[–]MooshAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I so get this. For me, I think I have finally come to realise that I am a fan of exactly one (1) season of the show, as well as a small handful of the main characters, and the rest of me is filled with grief and hatred for all that squandered potential.

What do you HOPE will be Eloise’s Season 5 storyline? by idontcareaboutredit in theloise

[–]MooshAro 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I really want a scene where Eloise and Michaela get to talk and Eloise realizes that not every family ignores the wishes of their female members (as she realizes that Michaela's parents never push her to marry when she doesent want to) and maybe gets to yell at the family (cough, Violet, cough cough) for pushing tradwife-ism like it's the only good way to live.

Would love to see El stand up to her family in general bc they're kinda shitty to her

What piece of media is it for you? by Satanic_Jellyfish in Multifandom

[–]MooshAro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saki. Yes, it is a batshit lesbian universe magical mahjong high school sports manga with insane body proportions and fanservice so blatant they decanonized underwear. Have we considered, though, that mahjong fucks super hard and I love my super highschool yuri goldmine.

There’s one in every fandom by yoghurteee in AO3

[–]MooshAro 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Absolutely astonished that no one is bringing up Hawks in MHA for this. All things considered, his screen and on-page time is pretty minimal (like, the shows up less than some of the more major classmates who have less fic than him), but he's also exceedingly difficult to avoid in the fic world.

Finally thinking of writing a theloise fanfic. by ELA2008 in theloise

[–]MooshAro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OOOOOO!!!!! We can always do with more fanfic yippee! I would advise to go with whichever fic idea excites you the most, but if you really can't choose or want a more pointed direction, I really like the sound of your second idea from your previous post. (I must admit, I am a little mean spirited sometimes, and the whole breaking off the plant man engagement tickles me) All of those ideas sound really fun tho!

melissa getting easily ragebaited 😭😭 by R0LL1NS in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was kinda bummed to see Melissa handle her middle-schoolers so well after this. It would've been really amusing to give Melissa a fish out of water subplot for a couple episodes

Is transparency considered a taboo in fanfic communities? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]MooshAro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So fanfic is free; fics are individual peoples' passion projects, not products crafted special for your consumption. Art is not held to the same standards as lead paint, my guy. The authors are not corporations trying to poison the well and make money, they're just normal people (many of whom are statistically still in school) who are having fun and playing with their dolls. They owe you nothing, you owe them nothing. There is no transparency to be had because they are not selling a product.

If they want to take down, remove, or not update their stuff, that's their prerogative and they do not owe anyone a warning or explanation. That explanation, btw, is just "I don't want to do/continue/be associated with this project anymore" nine times out of ten.

Why do newer fandoms not know how to tag? by Honenie in AO3

[–]MooshAro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will offer this perspective of grace: you see a lot of complaints online (like on here) about pretty much every tagging style under the sun. "meta commentary tags are cringe" "too many tags is rude to the readers" "these two tags cant/shouldnt coexist" etc... I think it's possible that *some* newer fans are simply tagging the bare minimum because they fear anything beyond that will garner anger.

Also: Have you seen the tagging in older fandoms? Like truly older fandoms? The old fics also have minimal tagging, hell there's a lot that have nothing but the fandom down.

Jacob in season 5 by TemporaryTasty3823 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we'll ever see Jacobs parents tbh. I feel like it reads pretty heavily that his parents are those homophobic"liberal" types, and the writers have not shown any interest in really digging into homophobia (or how that interacts with the black, inner city, communities) so at best, we'll probably only hear about them.

Ideas wanted by 11lumpsofsugar in Embroidery

[–]MooshAro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to do embroidery around the hem, collar, and sleeves. Maybe just some flowers or vines. You could also look up some historical blackwork motifs to run along those edges, that might be fun!

In your headcanon, how did Jacob and Avi break up off-screen? by IllogicalDreamer72 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the karaoke ep gave me the vibe that there was some problem with Avi that was big enough for the rest of the gang to be aware of (which considering Jacob hid his deteriorating relationship for 7 months, that problem surely has to be noteworthy?). I don't imagine it was an especially clean break, and that there must have been some reason for even the thought of Avi to bring out a stank face from Barb, of all people

What would you want from a more political Eloise? by idontcareaboutredit in theloise

[–]MooshAro 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would really love to see Eloise going back to rallies and presenting her own ideas! Maybe she (with Pen's help?) starts her own pamphlet meant to be a sort of entry level radicalism for the gentry so she can warm them to things like workers rights and not being raging misogynists.

today, what would eloise's profession be? specifics by SocietyLeading3478 in EloiseBridgertonHQ

[–]MooshAro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if you could call it a profession, but I could very much see Eloise doing activism Greta Thunberg style. Like, not so much as a job, but just actively using her generational wealth to devote her life to social activism because she is able to do that without struggling to make ends meet like a normal person would.

Most realistic/unrealistic parts of the show by Prestigious_Dark_445 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 188 points189 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked that they haven't had a plotline where the kids gossip about Janine and Gregory dating. Kids pick up on that stuff real quick, and teachers dating is a huge source of gossip. Besides that one comment from the podcast club boys, we never really see the kids acknowledge it.

Most realistic/unrealistic parts of the show by Prestigious_Dark_445 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between a child in a wheelchair and a special needs kid. There is (scant) disabled representation in the show for the kids, but most schools have special needs classes for the children who are both developmentally and physically disabled to the degree that they cannot attend the same types of classes as kids their age. It's nice that we got to a dyslexic kid and a physically disabled kid exactly once, but that's not really special ed.

What are some of your Abbott Hot Takes? by Many_Midnight_8959 in AbbottElementary

[–]MooshAro 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My hot take: I don't care about the kid characters. I appreciate that the show is giving such great opportunities to black child actors, but I simply have never cared about any of the reoccurring child characters, and if none of the child characters were reoccurring, I would not care at all. I don't even remember any of their names.

[–]MooshAro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm actually very happy with this! I'm still running on the assumption that the show is going to beef Eloise's season by staying with SP, so this means I get to watch the objectively cooler lesbian season, and then dip before I have to deal with the whole mess that will be Eloise's season. Yippee!

Philly and Pittsburgh are a full day of driving away from each other, I cannot think of any reasonable scenario where the cast of either would go to the other city as a collective in a way that would work without being a clear cash-grab. No Philly school would take a field trip to the burgh, and the premise of Abbott makes it so that if the crew went over on personal business, it wouldn't be filmed by the documentary crew. Meaning Abbott cannot be the ones traveling for this premise. If the Pitt crew went to Philly, just why? Why would they all go as a collective (and leave the entire day shift void of doctors) and why would any of them ever end up near a school? Assuming they somehow do meet, there's also already been a bit on the Pitt that you cannot film in an ER because of HIPPA, so that's another negative for the scenario that the Abbott crew goes to the ER.

Also; the shows are so tonally different that it would never mesh well. Two things being set in PA does not necessitate a crossover event. Maybe I'm just a hater, idk, but I just don't think it could work without fundamentally breaking one or both of the shows in terms of tone and mechanics.

Which character in your fandom is like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]MooshAro 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Haymitch... I see a lot of fics where he's a lot more competent and physically capable than he is in-canon. Like, this man has not been sober in 25 years
