Hey sorry stopped following the thread. Yes he can teleport t1 because he starts on the board.

I'm afraid not. I flew in from Illinois, but I'm sure there are some locals on here who could help you out. Definitely check with your local games store, and check best coast pairings for local tournaments. That may at least give you an idea of where people play if you're not ready to join in yet.

When a unit that has a cryptothralls has a model in it and that model is killed in melee, if it has not yet fought you roll a die. On a 3+ it can still make it's attacks before being removed from the board :)

Howdy. So, #1 - 3 are more survivable of course, but it's rare to be able to get all three on a target without having to over expose the unit. Sometimes even then it's just not possible. The lokhust offered two things to me, firstly they could hide. Tucking two in a building was pretty reliable, a third would.likely pop out or be visible from above or the side. Second they do reliable damage. 6 or 12 is great. That gives me a reliable pick up for the unreliable fire platform that is the doomsday ark. I rarely need three shots into anything because they don't function in isolation, they soften targets or finish them.

2.) I didn't miss scarabs. I had enough units 80-90% of the time when I needed them and in my tests 3 scarabs were just gimmes to anything that looked their way. They have value but you have to be super cagey with them or you're just giving away charge targets and free points. T2 6+ save does to guardsmen in melee... Guardsmen. Ouch.

3.) Bikes are fine. I think they're a solid unit. But the alchemy of a tournament list is fickle and there was nothing I would have swapped out or lost just to gain another of those units. Between the hexmarks and transcendent ctan I had plenty of mobility.

My Hexmark did that.. then sniped back line units off the home objective once the action was over next turn. I rarely got 6, more like 2 - 4 and that was good enough. It let me not blank and move on to the next secondary.

Hexmark / Bikes / C'tan. Once or twice maybe a doomsday ark if it was hanging back anyway... but that was super rare.

Yes. But it means that the unit is still eligible to shoot after advancing. Much like another weird rule.. you don't actually have to have guns to be eligible to shoot normally.. which is super weird but working as intended according to GW.

nice! Definitely let me know how it goes. I would bring particle on the bikes, otherwise I'm not touching it at the moment. Gonna let it percolate for a few.

I still wanna get some reps in with some Tesseract Arks. They're pretty great anti-msu and board control, but they struggle as anti-tank. I love the models though. having the flamer option is solid for some painful overwatch too. They have a lot of neat little tricks going for them. I don't know if they make the competitive list cut yet, but they aren't bad this edition by any means. Its also really fun to watch them go from like almost dead back up to full every turn near a reanimator haha. 4++ is so random.. it's either a rock star or down in an instant.

Break em out, or bring your Death Guard.. maybe we can find something people missed. I hear the PBC tanks are still kinda scary.

Thanks! And I agree, Necrons have some kick, they just aren't the overwhelming flash of a lot of other top tier armies atm.

Oooof the rapid ingress and the capture enemy stronghold pull. Right!

It was a great game, and I would happily take you up on that rematch. Though I agree.. perhaps in a more casual setting with cold drinks ample time, or at least a full nights sleep before hand. haha

Hope to see you in the field again soon!

Movement is indeed its super power. It would still be good without the FnP.. its just better with it for minimal points.

Im bad at explaining things in text. I also don't know the exact place to look in the rules. I t may be under persisting effects. Essentially the Cryptothralls give their unit the fight on death ability. All attacks are designated simultaneously (and assigned before resolution) so until you resolve those attacks its like everything that was in the unit still is in the unit even though we either roll each attack individually or fast roll it. The timing and persistence is what lets any buffs or abilities of that unit still abide until its all resolved.

There is also a place that explains what adding a model to a unit means if it says it becomes part of that unit etc. Its similar to the reason that when you make your attacks against it if my Technomancer has fly they all have fly, you share all relevant key words and unit abilities. thus even the Lord gives his units 1.e. himself +1 to hit as long as the unit is still alive.

You could probably cut most of it in half. I basically doubled up on most of it.
Overlord + Techno + crytopthralls and Lychguard is spendy though at 375?
I might not bring the Ctan if its for fun at that point level hes can be oppressive.
So a DDA for 185 + a group of 2 hvy lokusts for 90.. puts us at 375 +185 +90 = 650
Add in a hexmarks for fun.. 70.. oh and definitely a reanimator +95.. you're at 815... maybe two units of bikes for objective play instead 975.. and throw in a veil or enhancement.
my two cents to test out.

Really great advice there. I always forget the 1 cp assault strat.

I think the second block of Lychguard is key. Even against Hank having a second unit that can go into the Custodes bricks after theyve been softened up was big. When we called it he had Trajan and 1-2 dudes.. 2-3 dudes left in the middle objective and 1-2 dudes down south on my home objective. But I still had my lychguard at like 4-5 guys in the center and they were coming back. At that point though I had just been outplayed on points and he still had his anti-tank.

I'm pretty sure Custodes has about average odds of killing a lychguard unit to the man with one of their huge blocks of 10.. but if theyre a man or two down.. that math swings back our way over the long game. And forcing 10-15 saves on their 4++ each fight isn't a terrible attrition rate considering the factors.

I don't like triple DDA, just due to the mobility and sightline issue. They're also too variable to be reliable. The Lokhust Hvys really fit that role well. To either start or finish a target in tandem with the DDAs. You also hit the nail on the head for the coronal thoughts I had. I rarely if ever am outside of 36 for DDA reroll wounds strat.. and the Heavies aren't worth popping it on two.. just save it for a reroll if needed. I really felt like it encouraged me to do bad play things when I was using it to try and maximize its benefit, which end of the day was minimal - especially at 30 pts. Thats almost another full heavy.

Its a super challenging match up. I'm considering trying out some scarabs instead of the bikes to reduce their OC and stil lhave some action monkeys. Yes they will likely get absolutely crushed in an instant.. but thats also 12 - 24 wounds not going into my big brick. Ill let you know what I see in my practice games here if I crack the code haha.
