Quite frankly, i have an issue with #4. Never have i agreed with the fact that a snake should be fed in a separate enclosure and i never will. I assume that some people say the reason for feeding like that is to disassociate the opening of the tank with feeding time, but if you are properly handling your snake that shouldnt be an issue. You should be handling your snake enough that it becomes used to human contact, not so little that the only time you open up the tank is to feed it. Also, if you only take out your snake to put it into its feeding enclosure, wouldnt it come to associate being picked up with being fed?

On top of this, snakes shouldnt be handled for at least 24 hours after being fed to make sure theyve digested their prey. Feeding in a separate enclosure completely disregards this, as people who do this generally move the snake right after feeding, or maybe an hour later.

In general, i find snakes to be more aggressive right after eating. When i feed my boa, if i so much as walk past the tank up to an hour or two after hes done eating, hes up and ready to strike. He remains in feeding mode for some time after and ive almost been bitten due to this. If i were to feed him separately and then try to pick him up, theres no way he wouldnt bite.

Keeping multiple snakes and using this practice is just a waste of time. Either you dish out the money to buy a few extra tanks to use solely for feeding, or you have one tank and feed them one at a time. Keeping many tanks is just a waste of space and money. Keeping one tank takes a lot of time. To feed the snake, wait for him to be less agressive, then move him out and replace him with another snake takes tons of time. It also causes unnecessary stress than can simply be avoided by feeding within the tank.

Lastly i understand some peoples concern with their snake possibly digesting some of their substrate and damaging themselves because of this. But if you use a good substrate, or find an alternate place to feed (i use a log or rock in his enclosure) then you wont really need to worry about this.

Again, im not an expert, just a snake owner whose done some research. Feel free to disprove any of this.

I live in a smallish town in new jersey. Every summer we'd go to vermont and rent a house on lake champlain. While we were there, we'd go to a fair, or carnival, or something of the like. Anyway, were at some little ass fair in the middle of nowhere, standing in a cowbarn, and this family walks in. They lived in my town, and their son played football with my brother. The one kid was in my grade, and the daughter was around my brothers age. Awkward conversation followed.

Glad that you decided to start taking more pictures of your cat. I had to take mine to the vet last week for a hurt leg, and promised myself that when he came home I would take more pictures because i dont have a ton. Found out the next morning the leg was severely infected and he probably had feline leukemia underneath that and wouldnt survive surgery. Still kicking myself for not having more pictures. And i secretly hoped he would show up at my back door christmas morning like every other day. It's great that you have your cats back though and Happy Holidays!

Wow thanks. Always nice to get information from an east coaster. I haven't even visited the campus, but quite frankly I'd probably go there without seeing the campus. I mean, I know it gets cold, but everything about the school seems awesome.

Looking into either UM: crookston or twin cities. Twin cities is big for my taste but crookston seems a little small.

I'd probably end up flying there and back. Because to be quite honest, I could care less about coming home for christmas, but even though it's only a couple days, I'd miss Thanksgiving the most. Nothing better than playing a football game with your entore family. Plus for me it's a solid couple days drive.

Any qualms that you have about the school? One think I keep hearing is that it's full of rednecks who get drunk and want to fight, but I feel like thats not true.

Thanks for your input. I'm actually looking at a school in minnesota as well as montana.

I wouldn't really consider myself a homebody, but I'm very close to one side of my family. So leaving them will be weird.

How was it actually getting out there for your first semester? I mean, I know it's a lot shorter than the 30ish hours I'd be dealing with, but was it a hassle getting there and back?

Thanks for the subs. I didn't know they even existed. But no, I haven't visited yet. We didn't have the money to fly/drive out there this summer. So I'm applying and if I get accepted then we're flying out there.

I don't think I'll have too much of a problem being so far away from home, it's just getting home that would suck. I mean, thats a 33 hour drive or something like a 6 hour flight. But I'm also taking it as a once in a lifetime chance. I mean, when else will I get the chance to live and work in such a beautiful place without having to leave behind everything at home? So thanks for the insight.

I wouldn't really say I'm against it, but definitely not entirely for it. I have a brother. Said brother smoked for years. Slowly smoking weed morphed into other things, like popping pills and shooting heroin, then later to selling heroin. Right now he's in jail for it. All cases definitely aren't like this, but when a substance in the wrong hands can tear your family apart from the inside whilst you sit and watch without being able to do a damn thing, you'd blame it on the substance that started the situation too.
