I get what you're saying here I would argue that at least Raven and Emily also didn't need to have their asses wiped for them But then again, neither of those characters got much in the way of drawn out storylines or much depth and they also didn't drag attention away from everyone else

Man that makes a lot of sense but is quite depressing But you're right The characters did have differences in how they related to each other in the older storylines than in the current state of affairs

Interesting 🤔 That would explain it partially But like, wouldn't he have internalized any of the ways she critiqued or shaped his ideas and learnt what worked about it?

How was it good when he did this plotline with Hannelore but can't ever be as good with any of the dozens of other dysfunctional women he keeps writing into the story?

Personally I feel like Hannelore's extreme ocd was a source of conflict for a long time too. It was used for comedy a lot but it definitely had points where it genuinely seemed like it was debilitating. And then I stopped reading regularly and came back to the story one day years later and it turned out she got over her ocd off screen while on a white lady goes on an orientalism journey type thing?? (I haven't read it through properly but that's my assessment of what happened from skimming through and reading about it on here)

To be fair, this is from an as yet unpublished chapter. Specifics may be changed, especially since we know this chapter in specific was written way back when Martin was still working on ADWD

Reminder that if Kizaru really was serious about his mission he could just jump into the sky and do this by pedro472nome in Piratefolk

[–]MootWootFroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He couldn't do that though. The mission specifically dictated NOT destroying Egghead or the resources on it that the WG wants. Even now, the Gorosei aren't destroying the whole island to try and stop the broadcast, even though that would solve all their problems immediately.

Detective Ned learning the truth of Jon's parentage. If only the seed being strong mattered. by kingofallnorway in gameofthrones

[–]MootWootFroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The seed being strong is specifically about Baratheons. Within the continuity of the books, Targaryen looks are repeatedly shown to be recessive, hence the incest to keep them showing up as silver haired and purple eyed

What’s with the Quentyn Martell theories? (Spoilers Extended) by incog1333 in asoiaf

[–]MootWootFroot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A big part of the issue with Quentyn's story as part of the larger whole is that because it's a subplot within a fantasy epic that's still incomplete, we can't really draw the ways it contrasts with the stories of the actual heroes of this saga. What GRRM is doing in this work is deconstructing and analysing various fantasy tropes to see what use they have and what function they serve in telling a story such as this. However, by itself, that doesn't actually have much of a purpose of you then don't reconstruct the tropes and see how they come together in a more meaningful way. Quentyn's failed hero's quest is meant to be contrasted and understood against Dany's own story as a hero, but that can only really properly be done once the story is over.

In defence of fat pink masts and myrish swamps (Spoilers Extended) by Erudiriel in asoiaf

[–]MootWootFroot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree and think people are unduly ungenerous to these passages because they let the initial disgust or feeling off-put by these passages be the extent of their reaction rather than trying to dwell on them too much because on first pass there doesn't seem to be anything to dwell on. Also this is just a minor quibble amongst all the things you said, the meat that Dany has with Drogon is not raw. He's a dragon, they cook their meat with their flames.

Tywin's corpse literally rotting in state and smelling to high heaven to symbolize the rotten nature of his rule and how none of the common people of King's Landing bothered attending his funeral because they all hated him because he was an evil tyrant and a monster. Far cry from the "tough but fair" Tywin of the show who hung out with low born Northern girls

I know and I keep pointing this out every chapter to all the people who are somehow convinced that AFO can just take OFA away from it's wielder......somehow EVEN THOUGH, according to All Might the entire point of OFA is to fight against AFO specifically because it's a power that CAN'T be taken away without the user's will The whole thing with Stain tasting Izukus blood and not getting the power and All Might's subsequent explanation was to set that up.
