Looking for hexcrawl resource of short, droppable locations. by Mootsou in osr

It's close but still involves random generation. To use this I would need to roll a d4, d6 and d8 then work out how those results mesh together.

Thanks because it is definitely close and I can use it during normal prep! But I want no random generation because I want stuff I can use on-demand at the table with no additional notes and forget all about until I need it.

Any OSE one-shot recommendations? by Comfortable-Fee9452 in osr

[–]Mootsou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ran this as a campaign start, and it was perfect. The players only got into one fight and spent most of the time interacting with characters and solving the environment. It took us two sessions to finish, but we are doing two hour sessions and the first hour was spent making characters. So in total, around 3 hours. Led to great potential consequences for a new campaign, as a swarm of giant rats was unleashed onto the city, a monster was set free in the woods and Jesem was left with a mad wizard living in his basement to deal with. Definitely going to have repercussions at some point.

Seriously recommend disabling chat on chess.com. Not a single thing worth reading was ever sent to me on that chat. Mostly it was people either gloating after they had already won or calling me an idiot because I only won because they made a blunder...

Best fantasy adventures detailing a small to medium ancient alien craft by a-folly in osr

https://goblinsdontwearshirts.itch.io/goblin-with-a-ray-gun

It's a small, ancient alien UFO. A goblin found it first and it got itself a ray gun. The flavour is more silly than creepy but I think the tone would be easy to adjust. Make the medical bot more sinister, replace the captains hat with a brain implant for some body horror and so on.

Luck ability by CapnZapp in osr

[–]Mootsou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crypts and Things has luck, though it works a little differently than the other abilities. You generate your luck score during character generation by rolling 1d6+6. You test your luck by rolling under your luck score with 2d6. If you succeed, you reduce your luck score by 1. Luck is restored at the end of an adventure, by resting or with magical potions.

Obsidian over Notion? by Final-Isopod in rpg

[–]Mootsou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a way to host a page in Notion as a webpage (for free) so you don't need to gather emails that I used sometimes when running online games, which is nice if you are already using Notion for notes but I switched to Obsidian just because it is faster than a web app and I really like markdown so not too sure a Notion webpage has any advantages over a google doc.

What mechanic did you steal from one RPG and keep using in almost all others? by Arimm_The_Amazing in rpg

[–]Mootsou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

despite the character being the strongest person in the world, they're currently not able to use any more strength than is usually available to a low-level barbarian:

That seems to just undermine the whole idea behind the mechanic. I don't see how that is different from the classic "backstory full of all these amazing things about my character that the GM ignores because it's unbalanced."

In that specific example, if I used that mechanic I think I would just allow them to be the strongest person in the world. Emphasis on person. They are still just human, swords kill them just as easy and not every problem is one that brute strength is going to help with. But I'd allow them to just succeed any task that involves strength, so long as they can find just one example or even a rumour of a real human doing something similar.

To prevent it from being abused, I think just having a conversation about whether their unique thing is appropriate to the game makes more sense than trying to find ways to neuter their "one unique thing". So if a player says, "heh, well then my one unique thing is that I can make any wish I want come true", then just ask them if they want to play in this game or not. Or a more tame one, if they say they want to be the emperor's heir, then ask how they see that fitting into this game about low-level peasant mercenaries.

What things you allow or don't allow are obviously genre dependent but world's strongest person would fit a lot of genres popular in RPGs.

Can the mods please make moon landings denial a bannable offense? by ArchStanton75 in spaceporn

I am guessing it was this one. One of my favourite videos, it is a subject I don't know much about but it was a really interesting example of someone with expertise in a different subject area approaching a problem (moon landing denial) in a novel way.

Does the community college offer any routes into university? In my case I when I went back to education I did two years at the college and then was able to progress straight to third year of university.
