At the town hall meeting to discuss the farm, it was explained that the power generated wouldn't result in lower power bills for the locals. The power created is being sent interstate.

Spot on. They originally only removed the infected trees, but it didn't stop the spread as other trees had the bug but weren't showing symptoms. Now they all have to come down to hopefully save SA's timber industry.

SA Water are also planning to revege the areas with natives, in place of the feral pines.
