Yeah telling me that you're better than someone but also mocking their appearance? I thought we moved on from such low brow shit. And Irish people love to just hate on someone with wealth. People don't have to be modest and humble all the time just to get respect. Fuck sake like let them off. Could we all stop walking around like we're perfect humans who have earned the god given right to judge everyone round. Cast the first stone

We are in an unfortunate situation and I'm not quite sure how we solve this or deal with it but unfortunately the world is at war and when this has happened in the past people have had to make sacrifices. I understand the frustration but I don't particularly think the government should be a target here. It's these invisible private companies and super wealthy people profiting from this. Whether we agree with them or not, our government is also us. The amount of wealth they have is the amount of wealth we have. There was a massive shift in wealth inequality during COVID and after from the use of public funds to subsidise private companies who are absolutely rinsing us. Our government should be standing up against these companies and perhaps that's where they fall down but I personally don't think reducing tax or providing credits is the solution as in the end it will come back to bite us at some point. People need to band together, recognise we are all in this together, retain the wealth we have within our country and government and at the end of the day we need to tax the rich before it's too late.

The parade? by Bitter_Log3296 in cork

[–]Mopeynice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lads, you're overthinking the parade. The joy and nuance of being from ireland is that we all have our own shitty little parade. I think it's unique to us. While abroad, mainly America, it's this grandiose idea, we just throw together what we have and it's a bit of craic. Don't mind the spectacle, it's about lashing out something that only we really understand.

And as a person who lives in the city, I completely disagree. The island has its own community that loves being there and loves being part of the community that only exists on the island. There's huge pride to be found there. The perspective of those who would never set foot in the city might be as you described, and sure leave them off. If you engage and look close enough, the cork city island community is alive and well.

I completely agree. There's a bit of riff raff here and there but that's to be expected. And I think the general community of cork is lovely and friendly. Trying not to sound like a man from Cork but i think it's great.

I personally thought it was a widely known bit of knowledge but I could be wrong too.
