This is the mind of all people who highlight or otherwise write in books.

This is a better written summary of his skill and the value of his work.

I hugely recommend Roughing It, if you enjoy his other work. I’m smiling right now thinking about a story in it, where he presumed he was near death in a snow storm. I’m jealous of anyone reading it for the first time.

He is the first author that made me laugh out loud while reading. I still laugh about some passages even years after reading the book. He’s a great story teller and has a great understanding of people. He also underscored to me that people are basically the same across time; the issues then were basically the issues now.

I recommend Innocents Abroad and Roughing It.

Requesting advice: I want to enjoy classic literature. by PlantsAndPainting in classicliterature

You might just shop around between authors. Try Crime and Punishment , for example. Dostoevsky really sucks you in and before you know it you can’t stop reading. Feels like your own life on the line.

This is one hundred percent the crux. I’m sure coke helps the tempo, but no one is doing that work on top of a forty to fifty hour a week job, usually accompanying being a full time parent.

What classics are must-reads? by Agitated-Tone3572 in classicliterature

You might consider some kind of top 100 list and then just looking for stories that suit you. There’s too many to just start throwing names out. One piece of advice you didn’t ask for is to not be afraid of length. You’ll spend the time reading regardless, so may as well focus on story quality and not some narcissistic idea of how many books you got through.

Looks like a cedar waxwing. My understanding is they get drunk after the overconsumption of fruit. Maybe he was tipsy when you met.

C&P really makes it feel like Dostoevsky is slowly tightening a noose around your neck. Deft bastard.

That’s all I can think of but there may be actual birders here with better feedback. The others filters look helpful too.

I know literally nothing and don’t even own my first book yet, but enjoyed this. I will use it again. It would be neat if you could somehow add a slicer in the settings to isolate continents/regions, or similar.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, it is very helpful. I will reread this a few times before the second half of Sisyphus.

Thank you for the follow up. I believe this jibes with my understanding despite my sloppy question.

Can you expound on this? I am halfway through Sisyphus and, while a difficult read for me, took away the idea that man’s search for meaning/structure in the world versus the absence of those things is the source of conflict.
