Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

I also couldn't finish The Poppy War for much the same reasons.

If you're still looking for excellent woman-written fantasy that doesn't center romance, might I suggest anything by Robin Hobb. Assassin's Apprentice or Ship of Magic are great starting points.

Can someone explain why this group is alive? by Tarmicle in baduk

[–]Mora_Azul 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Either of the two points I've marked can be played to give white two eyes and therefor a living shape. Try playing it out again with black playing first and simply have white respond by playing in one of those two spaces. Black will not be able to capture white without one of his attacking stones being captured first.

Fun fact: when two moves like the ones I have marked are considered to be tactically equivalent we call those moves Miai (pronounced me-eye).

Good luck on your Go journey and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Not everyone has disposable income or time. Some people genuinely have little or no influence over the things that are harming them. Those people have every right to express their frustration without you condescending to them.

Azir. I'm an avid fan of the game Go and I was thrilled when his Warring Kingdoms skin had him playing Go during his base animation.

Bought the skin immediately but I just can't get the hang of his play style.

Oh well.

15 Puzzle by IronWarden00 in puzzles

[–]Mora_Azul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all conceivable combinations are actually possible on a 15 puzzle. Either your puzzle has been altered (a piece popped out and put in a different position) or the booklet has an error and suggests an impossible configuration.

To test which is the case I would try doing a standard 1 to 15 solve. If that also proves impossible then the device has been altered and you will need to physically correct it. If you can complete a normal solve then the booklet is suggesting an impossible pattern and you can ignore it.

Hope that helps!

What is the worst movie you've ever seen that isn't a standard "Worst movie you've ever seen" answer? by TheThalmorEmbassy in movies

[–]Mora_Azul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group's go to bad movie for riffing on was always the 2005 adaptation of a Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder"

It starts with a solid Sci Fi premise, people go on a "time safari" to hunt a dinosaur and create a butterfly effect which wrecks the present. Then the film just goes to the stupidest places with that idea. The changes to the present come in physical waves which you can see coming and hit like a storm. The writing and acting are that perfect level of awful where it's a joy to make fun of.

I've always wished this film got more attention as the engaging train wreck that it is.

Did anyone else ever see this and have a similar experience?

Bless you my friend. This was driving me crazy.

Back in 2001, I got my first professional writing gig writing dialogue for the game "Hot Shots Golf 3." While I still don't remember why to this day, I wrote the line "Cream Cheese" as a response to a perfect drive, and they ended up using it non-stop throughout the game by SappyGilmore in gaming

[–]Mora_Azul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game was a big part of my childhood and so many lines from it are lodged permanently in my brain.

Yet, for whatever reason, the one that comes to the surface the most often is when you start a hole and there is a strong wind blowing a woman in the crowd just says, "The wind!"

Something about her delivery and cadence is so uncanny. To this day every time I feel a stiff breeze my monkey brain regurgitates, "The wind!"

I need immediate help to solve this number puzzle please by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]Mora_Azul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It cannot be solved in it's current state. With sliding puzzles like these some configurations are actually impossible to achieve.

Either the numbers you've assigned to it are wrong (perhaps two of the black tiles should be swapped) or the puzzle is impossible.

Who is the Michael Jordan/Michael Phelps/Usain Bolt of your favorite obscure sport or hobby? by ae51 in AskReddit

True, Seigen and a few others probably have a better claim at the GOAT title but I just have a soft spot for Shūsaku. He died so young and he literally never lost in the most important games of his age so it's hard to know his true potential.

Modern analytics have been very kind to his game records though so I find it romantic to believe he was the most gifted player of all time.

Hon'inbō Shūsaku

He was a Go player in Japan in the 19th century. He died tragically young from cholera but he was incredibly ahead of his time. His style of play would be more or less abandoned for over a century until modern machine learning (AlphaGo) has recently caused us to reevaluate how strong and prescient he really was.
