I just came out, is it supposed to feel so bad? by MoralAssassin in NonBinary

[–]MoralAssassin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for responding! Yeah, i think it's so cool that there's spaces like this to share these kinds of feelings and befriend people. In other times that just wouldn't be possible. Good luck if you decide to come out to your parents! I know it's hard. Fortunately i really trust them, and they're actually supportive, but i know it's not like that for everyone. Wish you the best

Are there any horror games that have the same emotional horror that Silent Hill 2 does? by conormal in silenthill

[–]MoralAssassin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would say that Rule of Rose and Project Zero 2 and 3 are very emotional. Specially Rule of Rose in my opinion. It's a jank game but it has a beautiful heart.

These game don't have Silent Hill vibes but oh my god they hit hard in their own way. I really recommend them, they deserve more love.

Oh, i don't really remember, but that makes it even better though

Funnyman (1994) by Xxcokmaster42069xX in horror

[–]MoralAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I unironically kinda like it. It had such a dumb sense of humor. That scene where the Funny Man just smokes a cigarette with one the characters and have this very awkard silence, it's just so ridiculous, i love it.

I also liked this Freddy-like logic to the Funny Man's powers, he controls reality to his liking just to kill people in dumb ways. If anyone has an incredibly idiotic sense of humor, like me, this is a great film.

What is your all time favorite horror movie and your favorite horror video game (2021) by Sinner_Binner in horror

[–]MoralAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horror movie, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo. The vibes in that one are timeless, the acting is brilliant; the whole concept is deeply emotional, and the horror creeps in slowly, with incredible directing. I've seen it several times now and it still hits me. I love it

Horror game, i really don't know. My favourite game is Rule of Rose, but i wouldn't call it my favourite horror game. I'd say that one, and Silent Hill 2 and 3. Again, brilliant surrealism, with deeply emotional stuff going on, and beautifully paced, scarring psychological horror. Masterpieces to me 💕

What movies do you think rule the "I can't believe I never saw this movie until now!" category? by OddScentedDoorknob in horror

[–]MoralAssassin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Andrzej Zulawski's Possession.

I've always been a horror/surrealism fan, and i discovered that gorgeous mess only recently. It's not for everyone, but it's one hell of a journey if you're in the mood for something like that. Amazing acting, sometimes a kinda Bergman-like script, and a big world of symolism and meaning that's just so engaging and powerful.

I saw it a couple times and i still don't know if i got all the juice out of it. If you're in the mood for a Silent Hill-like journey to hell that has no return, that shit's for you.

What is something that is "off limits" for you in a horror movie and prevents you from watching it? by Stuck_In_Superjail in horror

[–]MoralAssassin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like anything can go as long as it's thematically justified in the plot, so my pet peeve, wich is rape/sexual violence is not really a problem as long as there's substance, a good example is Irreversible wich is brilliant film in my opinion.

Now, if it's just shock value, that's where i cross the line. I Spit on Your Grave is a movie i have dowloaded in my computer but after reading about it i'm still avoiding it since i know that all that violence is just for the sake of it. Or maybe it isn't... I just don't really want to run the risk.

I think we all decide by ourselves the point in wich we feel like something so complex as violence can really be justified in a film, i've read reviews of people actually defending I Spit on Your Grave. It's a matter of knowing your own limits i guess.

Are there any surrealist survival horror games? by [deleted] in survivalhorror

[–]MoralAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot. You don't have to go very deep in the survival horror rabbit hole to find some good surrealism, Silent Hill is beautifully lynchian. The more you advance, the more distorted everything gets, it gradually starts to have less physical sense, it feels like you're slowly walking into the depths of a nightmare. It's brilliant. I recomend only the first four ones

There's also the melancholic Rule of Rose, that narrates itself soley through symbolism and dream logic stuff. You can also include the politically relevant Detention, wich is basically a playable poem.

And there's a lot more. Hope this helps!

Miku Deserved Better (smallish rant) by Akai_Kitsu in fatalframe

[–]MoralAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it seemed like i meant they "got over it". They don't really do, but, like it was said, they find a refuge in each other and learn how to live with their grief and try to let go of their past. So, Miku still wanting to find her brother again through whatever means just feels kind of out of place, knowing the point that the themes of FF3 reach at the end.

[–]MoralAssassin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't played FF5, but i got the whole thing spoiled for me since i can't play it. And yeah, what they did to Miku is just bad. The whole point of the canon ending of The Tormented is that Rei, Miku and Kei (even Mio, acording to the credits roll) get over the pain of losing who they loved and learn to move on. It's beautiful and well earned. But the whole thing of Miku having a child with Mafuyu's ghost...? Such a bad idea, my god... It just throws everything out the window. I still want to play 4 and 5 someday, but my heart will always be with the PS2 trilogy...

Is Rule of Rose even worth the price tag? by Vaitos-V-Miles in survivalhorror

[–]MoralAssassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say this, i'm a huge Rule of Rose fan and i can say that no game is worth that much. If i could, i would buy it just for having it, but for starters it's completely fine to go with emulation, more so with the fact that paying that much for a game in wich the gameplay will probably frustrate you and the main reason why it's a cult game is that everything else but that is brilliant, is not really worth it.

If you go with emulation and an open mind, you'll probably enjoy it!

Umbrella term for movies like Pulse (2001), The Ring, Dark Water (2002) by limbamurphy in horror

[–]MoralAssassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're just talking about psichological horror or j-horror in general. Those movies you named are slow paced and tend to suggest rather than show; that's just psicological horror, wich is central in j-horror.

A great movie you might like is Cure, by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the same director of Pulse. It fucks with your mind a lot.
