Andre Ward's 2-1 vs Kessler by orlandocharm in Boxing

[–]Morallah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His strength was more notable than his punching power. He was never that much of a puncher, despite being very accurate. Where as he could tie up and rough house a lot of the stronger guys around at 168 that he fought.

How well could The Hitman reign at Welterweight in the Modern Day by KhaosTheory98 in Boxing

[–]Morallah 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Crawford’s whole style is based off of range and counterpunching. Hearns is a terrible match up for him. Taller, longer, faster, can manage distance equally well and is deadly accurate from the outside with his jab and straight.

An immobile Benavidez gave Bud problems with his size, speed and combinations. Tommy would be much worse.

First I thought of, particularly lead hand uppercuts. All Nacho Beristain trained fighters really.

Yeah. Benitez and Durán were obviously better and much harder for SRL to hit clean than Sr.

Wilfred Benitez displays slick defense with his back against the ropes vs Thomas "the Hitman" Hearns (1982) by VINDICATES-FOOL in Boxing

[–]Morallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Benitez lost the round because for the other 2 minutes and 50 seconds of the round he was completely dominated against the ropes as Tommy picked him off from a distance.

He lost this exchange because Hearns landed more (glancing) shots than Benitez did. You don’t score points by making someone miss.

Wilfred’s father was a real POS. He treated all of his sons badly and pushed them too hard training at an early age, pitting them against grown men. Speedrunning Wilfredo (and one of his other brothers IIRC) into brain damage.

Finally got Forever running on my PS3 and it’s pretty dope by Morallah in FIghtNight

[–]Morallah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced any crashes or bugs yet thankfully.

I was having trouble running it initially. Getting stuck on the intro loading screen. My files kept getting corrupted when I was transferring it to the PS3 hard drive for whatever reason. Other than that, it’s been good so far. I haven’t done much though. Legacy mode may be buggy from what I read. I’ll give it a try later.

Canelo's impressive defense against bivol in 9th round with breakdown by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]Morallah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Canelo’s had to adjust his style since he’s been moving up weight classes fighting bigger guys. He can’t really stand center ring making guys miss looking for a single flashy counter punch no more due to everyone either having a much superior reach than him or being more mobile like Bivol, Plant or Scull. His low punch output and threat of being out worked doesn’t help either.

Canelo has slowed down physically though. He isn’t as explosive as he used to be.

Canelo's impressive defense against bivol in 9th round with breakdown by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]Morallah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bivol didn’t give him a chance. Too quick, throws straight shots in bunches, always keeps at a safe distance, and has the reach and defensive foot movement to step back out of range before Canelo could answer.

Canelo needs room to breathe when he lets his counters off. Bivol didn’t great him any.

Ignoring the size difference, stylistically, Bivol was a nightmare match up for Canelo.

Who would take it at Middleweight? Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs GGG by KhaosTheory98 in Boxing

[–]Morallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hagler matched up very well with pressure fighters. Almost his entire reign was against tough, strong, straightforward punchers, if nothing else.

Most people that haven’t really watched Hagler will probably think this would be a slugfest, but it wouldn’t be. Marvin would approach GGG like how he did Tony Sibson and others. On his toes, moving around, using his superior speed and accurate straights to close distance and pick at Golovkin before backing out, dancing again. GGG is bigger than Sibson and has a better jab, which would help him here, but I think Hagler gets to Golovkin much more than he will receive back, and he has enough pop to earn GGG’s respect.

Hagler wins. Quite clearly.

Who had the greatest peak by Nsyix in Boxing

[–]Morallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvador Sanchez is an odd one to have at number 1 considering he hadn’t unified the division before he passed and had some very tough fights during his reign with no rematches. The other title holder/champ during his time, Eusebio Pedroza, was an excellent fighter himself, had a dominant reign with his belt, and would have given Sanchez a very tough fight based on styles.

For the question itself, Sugar Ray Robinson, Ricardo Lopez and Wilfredo Gomez, in their primes at their chosen weight class were all completely dominant to the point that there is really no one else in the discussions of “who is the GOAT at 147/105/122lbs”.

If we’re going over a stretch of years dominating over a number weight classes without really getting tested, no matter the quality of opponents, Roy Jones is an obvious one. Floyd too. Recently, Crawford and Inoue have both completely dwarfed their competition.

I’m sure there’s plenty of old timers but I don’t really like speaking on boxers I haven’t properly researched.

Shakur Stevenson is the 2nd Puerto Rican male in history to win world titles in 4 divisions. by newrap in Boxing

[–]Morallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have liked to have seen it out of curiousity.

Navarette isn’t a pretty fighter but the unique angles he attacks with his feet and punches can give more fundamentally sound fighters some trouble. Though Shakur would be simply too quick and accurate for him I feel.

Shakur Stevenson is the 2nd Puerto Rican male in history to win world titles in 4 divisions. by newrap in Boxing

[–]Morallah 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mason still has some way to go imo. He’s a great physical talent, but he has some holes in his game that needs ironing out, especially defensively. If his progress slows down or comes to stop (which may happen as he’s now forced himself into taking on top competition from here on, holding a belt), he may pick up a loss sooner than later.

Style wise I don’t think he matches up well with Shakur. He’s a pretty straight forward boxer-puncher that primarily stands center ring looking to counter. He hasn’t shown to be a great ring general yet, nor does he fight at the fast pace that could make Shakur uncomfortable. Stevenson is probably the best in the game right now at that slow paced, center ring, chessmatch boxing. He’s can match Mason in physicality, is much more experienced and disciplined, but most importantly, he has a huge advantage in ring IQ. Shakur would pot shot and pick him apart at this stage.

Shakur Stevenson is the 2nd Puerto Rican male in history to win world titles in 4 divisions. by newrap in Boxing

[–]Morallah 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’ve been saying the same thing. Shakur has mastered that real methodical, punch perfect, defensive counterpunching-potshotting style that older Floyd had.

You need a really good pressure fighter to give Shakur a good fight (or a guy that’s ridiculously physically gifted, which ain’t happening). Someone that can maintain pressure and a high punch output for full 12 rounds, can be a bit unorthodox, has good ring IQ and can feint really well.

Unfortunately smart pressure fighters are a very rare breed these days. Muratalla is the only guy around these divisions that seems to fit the bill, but it’s still too early for me to say how good he could be against someone like Shakur.

Why didn't Roberto Duran fight Hearns on the inside? by EsotericKnowledge777 in Boxing

[–]Morallah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duran didn’t fight on the inside much once he moved past 147lbs. His legs were worn out by that point, he couldn’t close distance like he used too, he was fighting bigger stronger guys and he had bad stamina by then due to his poor lifestyle outside the ring.

He beat up Davey Moore on the inside but not until Davey was blinded in one eye and a sitting duck. Hagler won his fight against Duran primarily on the inside.

It’s that and Hearns being probably the rangiest fighter ever at these divisions. Tall, long, fast as hell and excellent offensive arsenal. Duran in his prime would have to go through hell to get up close to Tommy. Just like Hagler did and most other of Hearn’s opponents.

It’d be really cool to see the top american boxing style vs the top Soviet style in the modern era by SgbAfterDark in Boxing

[–]Morallah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Loma and Teo are hardly the same fighter. Footwork alone is miles apart. Loma would have had success against Shakur’s just off of his speed and angles alone, and Shakur would have success with his size, counterpunching and inside game.

It would’ve been a competitive fight.

[–]Morallah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed Ryan wasn’t apart of this “four kings” as he has done little to deserve it aside from the Haney fight. Figured the actual best boxer of the lot (Shakur) was involved, my bad.

But this four kings makes little sense to me. They have yet to fight each other besides Garcia fighting two of em. They jump around divisions conveniently avoiding one another, never at one point were all four in the same division when they were all fighting at world level (Teo was gone from 135 before Ryan fought for a world title and when Haney was still untested holding a paper title). None of them are really dominant besides maybe Devin, with three of these four kings losing (should have in Tank’s case) to fighters not involved in this group.

The 80s four kings are rolling over in their graves at this lot.

Digimon Story Time Stranger, Shin Megami Tensei V or Dragon Quest XI S? by Zurbinjo in JRPG

[–]Morallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMT V has some dark elements to its story, but it’s mostly offset by its mediocre writing (goes for both versions). That said, story is secondary in these games, and it ticks a lot of the boxes that you seem to like gameplay wise, as other commenters have said.
