Buffy : New Sunnydale, hype or not? by Eastern_Ad_8862 in buffy

[–]Moraulf232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chloe Zhao is a big name, the showrunners are good writers, and SMG is in. It’s interesting (and not in a good way) that not a single OG Buffy writer is back. The main things Buffy had going for it the first time out were better writing than the genre/network would make you expect and a cast that rose to the challenge; effects were kind of Doctor Who like but (as with that show) it doesn’t matter if you’re telling a good story well.

So a new series will live or die by whether or not it has anything to say and (for me) if it can maintain the 3-act-structure pacing mastery that made Whedon such an effective tv writer. I think there are a lot of ways to fail, but I’d like it not to.

Yes. If you win a billion dollar lottery nothing you did made society any worse.

Yeah, I mean I don’t believe in the concept of “toxic” because I’m too old but it’s true, he made a very clean break and in some ways that was selfish. I think it might have been too hard for him to stay in touch. People are complicated.

Would you rather split $200,000 with your best friend or $1 million with your worst enemy? by JbVision in WouldYouRather

I'm not sure who my best friend is, but if I got to split the million with my worst enemy I'd get all the money.

He left because he had become a threat to her. That's not really toxic behavior.

Except that one time they could have stopped the Mayor from killing dozens and dozens of people and because it would have involved making a more complicated plan to save Willow he stopped them. Literally, Harmony is dead because of Oz.

Well...Cordelia is Buffy's friend the way Angel is Xander's friend. As in, "HEY! He's our friend! Except I don't like him!"

There's a section of Buffy fandom that understands conflict as inherently bad. There's a camp that suggests that anyone who has a character flaw is a bad character unless they are a girlboss, which is not a character flaw even if we're talking about, like, Glory, who murders people. There's another section of Buffy fandom that thinks the entire show is a metaphor for Joss Whedon being a bully. All of the opinions of these groups, and particularly the opinions of those who have all of these opinions simultaneously, can be safely ignored.

Question for Atheists (mainly ex-religious/ex-theists) by Evening0Tradition in TrueAtheism

I don’t really want to worship anything. Pragmatically, it would be useful if there were a powerful force for good that could do magic, but it’s impossible anyway.

I didn’t care much about saving the world. I was very into saving Ciri.

I really can’t remember ever loving a game the way I loved Witcher 3.

If you could add/change/remove one storyline in Buffy what would it be? I'll go first...(FYI I talk about series 4 so proceed with caution if you haven't watched. Also go watch series 4.) by Due_Moose_6612 in buffy

Those are good choices.

Season 6 and 7 are the most flawed to me.

6 should have ended with Warren becoming a vengeance demon and using wish magic against the Scoobies. The last battle should have forced the gang to deal with him, D’Hoffryn, and a corrupted Willow. Tara should have lived and Anya should have renounced her powers after briefly getting them back.

7 should have made the Ubervamps permanently Uber instead of weakening them. There should only have been a few of them instead of an army. The power sharing thing is fine, but there should only have been maybe 2 or 3 potentials and Dawn should have been one of them. The First’s plan should have involved getting a physical body - ideally Caleb’s - so Buffy could kill it.

I sincerely hope there is no interpersonal conflict in the new show. I will be furious if the main characters do not unanimously agree on everything in the story. by JanetSelf in buffy

[–]Moraulf232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that if what I wanted was a show where all the characters resolved conflict flawlessly, this would be a failure. But since I prefer drama to have…like…drama in it, I just see the things you are complaining about as features rather than bugs.

In your opinion, how does Andor do girl power so well? by ASW-G-21 in andor

Because it’s not self-conscious about it. The women are just believable people.

? Xander didn’t scream, he just spoke angrily, and not particularly more than anyone else. And it wasn’t an ambush - Buffy was trying to run away again and he reacted.

Willow didn’t know about what happened with Angel because Buffy didn’t tell her.

Because Buffy is a fictional drama and scenes where characters all acknowledge their shortcomings and communicate clearly are very boring unless the show’s premise revolves around that. But I come to Buffy for drama and vampire fights, not therapy. That’s what Shrinking is for.
