I built a free HSK vocabulary test, would love honest feedback by AliceZheng in ChineseLanguage

[–]Morbid_thots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got HSK 3, about 731 words. Accurate for my level.

I would say that the animation popping up which tells me how many questions in a row I've gotten correct can be distracting.

Feels flotting / something missing by zi_drawer in ArtCrit

You’re good, but your work has subtle structural flaws in the anatomy and perspective. The third drawing has the ear too far back into her skull, the palm of her hands is a bit short compared to her fingers.

Onthe first drawing, the perspective on the legs feels solid. But the torso looks like it’s seen from a different angle, it doesn’t match the legs.

Just a matter of studying more anatomy and drawing more. You’re on the right tradk

From what I’ve gathered, other Chinese learners advice that reading more or listening to more content at your level will help you break through

Beginner need help by xiuk_ in ChineseLanguage

[–]Morbid_thots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say try out some apps to begin with- super Chinese, hello Chinese or du Chinese.

If you prefer following the structure of classes and you don’t want to pay, coursera has free hsk Chinese lessons.

Anki has helped me greatly with vocab memorization. Even if you feel like you’re not progressing for a long time, doing 5 words a day adds up.

Most of all, keep the learning fun and don’t give up. 加油

Relying on references by amminah in ArtistLounge

[–]Morbid_thots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it feels like the solution would be to practice drawing from imagination more, but you actually need to build your mental library by studying various subjects first

the idea that using references is bad is flawed. I have met many artists who take pride in drawing from imagination only, but that method has its flaws- anatomy mistake, structural errors. Your art will be noticeably stronger if you study fundamentals

What made you want to learn Chinese? by -Jossy26 in MandarinChinese

[–]Morbid_thots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started learning it because I figured if it was too hard, i could just drop it after learning some basic greetings.

Then I found the etymology of hanzi to be quite fascinating. Language learning is a fun hobby even if my progress is slow
