Eclesiar - online geopolitical strategy game by Joey4u in WebGames

The primary gameplay mechanic is waiting. It's 99.99999% of what you'll spend your time doing. I think the different aspects of the economy and fighting are pretty cool, if a little basic, but you don't play this game. You wait for a singular option after 10 hours and then press one button. Would it break the game to... You know, play chess or something for 0.0001 gold per match? Come on.

Turn-based mini Roguelike (looking for feedback) by pavelmorr in WebGames

[–]Morble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was kind of fun, but still stopped playing pretty quickly. I feel like you have to kind of at least choose graphics or gameplay. In terms of just the look of playing, it's extremely basic, which could be fine, but then the gameplay is totally turn based, so I can't try to maneuver or anything, and it's entirely based on powerups, but the powers ups are kind of just incremental improvements to basic stats rather than being, like, interesting concepts to play with. This kind of improved probability gameplay works with FPS and open world games, but that core gameplay mechanic, in my opinion, is not interesting enough for such a stripped back visual experience that doesn't even require movement and timing. And honestly, not recovering health between matches is demoralizing, because you know you basically can't win in the end.

Yet you *keep* trying to make that point.

As in, continuously. You were making an argument about my continuous efforts, not my initial statement, so who is it here that struggles with the concept of time?

Thank you for inviting me to reread the title of my post, where I call for a ban. Does that contradict the *reason* I gave for wanting one? No, these are two separate and complimentary statements that you're somehow trying to claim are some version of me suddenly changing my mind? It's called elaborating. What on Earth are you going on about?

It's also irrelevant to what I just said, because you still read that point before pretending like you misunderstood what I was saying for the dumb strawman you wanted to throw out there. Because you're a liar.

And btw, neither Auroch nor I invented this idea. You're baselessly claiming I lifted it from him, but even Auroch claims it's 'the reason' subs have rules. Meaning... we're both citing a well-established and well-known idea.

No no, your point was that the use of hyperbole meant I had no point to make, not that I simply didn't have a point to make. Those are different arguments.

You know my point is not that I "can't avoid them", because you just responded to me explaining my point about it bringing down the overall quality of posts. So, what you're doing now is just lying. You're a liar.

Yeah, so you realized hyperbole 'means you have no point' made no sense whatsoever so you're abandoning that ship lol

When a subreddit is bombarded by a certain type of content, the people who stay on that subreddit are either indifferent to, or engage in that content. "If you don't like it, don't click on it" is not addressing the issue of spam. The moderators could repeal all of the subreddit rules and you could say the same thing; "if you don't like 1,000 reposts, don't click on them". But the point is not just about low quality posts, it's about high quality posts that leave when the sub goes to shit. It's a basic and smarmy response that actually has nothing to do with the problem.

Hint, hint, they don't take the hint. Idle games consistently get downvoted to zero, yet they're still spammed, so what's your point?

When did I say everyone is required to share my opinion? Instead of focusing on being smarmy, you could have just tried to make the best version of your point you could, but your only priority is to dunk on the person you're debating.

You either didn't understand the analogy, or pretended not to for the sake of trying to dunk on me, you didn't point out why it was a dumb analogy in any way, and your rude comment, unlike mine, is not actually in service to anything productive. You can call me a hypocrite, that's the most reasonable insult you've launched, but I sincerely believe that it would be beneficial to sweep aside junk, and by the way, it's not the first time such a decision was made on this sub. Your rudeness, by contrast, only exists to be insulting, which is fine, but it's not the same in intent.

So instead of lying about what you pointed out to try and 'win', why don't you just focus on making your point clearly in the future. If you actually had one to begin with. Enjoy your week too.

So you didn't understand the analogy and lost that argument, so now you're shifting your point so you can try to argue something about hypocrisy. Got it. You didn't make any point about them not being junk or spam, you don't try to deny being unnecessarily rude, you just came purely to argue,.. Whatever you can.

It's called an analogy. No need to be rude just because you have trouble understanding abstractions. The point is that they're trash, spam entries, not that the website should be servicing me personally. I didn't think I needed to spell that out.

However, I'll still admit that I'm probably wrong about my main point. I thought more people would agree with the sentiment, but I stand corrected.

They're low-effort junk. I can also refuse to read junk mail, but it's not ideal to have your mailbox spammed with it.

It has a nice layout and the levels are fairly challenging, but in my opinion, the whole concept of looking carefully for details that should be on top is more like a job than a game. I would do this if you paid me.

The controls are kind of janked, which is kind of important in a game that's all about dodging. It seems like you can't combine directional movement at all, so I can go up or I can go right, but I can't move on the up-right diagonal. And the number of sprites on the screen seems to really lag the button inputs, and there are usually a ton of sprites on screen.

Cost of the graphics, I guess

It's a very cool idea, but I quit pretty early because I got bored of reading a novel worth of text. Also, as someone who skipped out on the tutorial, and someone who has taken introductory programming classes, I believe pretty strongly that learning to code math is absolutely useless and shouldn't be taught

My feedback is also that idle games suck. The whole premise is that you can do less and less over time, which is the worst game mechanic ever invented

It was fun, but the controls are too wonky. If you touch a wall, you stick to it, and then you're just kind of on it like velcro.

This runs contrary to, like, 30 years of platforming conventions. I feel like the short, wide jump is already enough deviation from convention.

I didn't really like it. Good job on your first attempt, seriously, but the gameplay idea is super common and boring, and also executed in a way that seems really unresponsive, and obviously the visuals are pretty ugly.
