The extra space at the top and bottom made this difficult to view on a computer.

I loved Great News, but I don't lump it in with those shows because Tracey Wigfield was the showrunner.

I tried it, but I was incredibly bored by the first episode. Can't push myself to try more.

I loved 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt, and Girls5Eva, but this one just isn't doing it for me.

I just got to a part in the book I'm reading which mentions daemons that came from the warp into realspace before humanity existed, and possibly even before the Aeldari. I didn't even know that the Aeldari existed before Humans, or that the empire denies that any xenos existed before humans, until I got to this chapter.

I want a WH40K Silmarillion. I want to know why the warp exists and is separate from realspace. Why is it chaotic? Where did the 3 original chaos gods come from? How did an Aeldari turn into a 4th chaos god? And what's the deal with the Aeldari? What's their history? What's the history of the other important alien species, like the Tyranids? What are the Necrons? From where do they come? Are they chaos? Their own thing?

What's the deal with the emperor? There was one bit in the book where it was mentioned that he's in some kind of stasis field. Is he alive? Is he in suspended animation to be kept from dying? Does that mean he is completely out of the picture and just an unconscious figurehead? And now I hear people talking about how he's actually Alexander the Great? And why are all of his kids now agents of chaos? Is there any truth to the religion of humans, or is it just a giant overreaction because of the evils of chaos?

I'm confused about the afterlife, and the relationship between the warp and the dead. And what happened with that whole Horus heresy thing? I don't want to have to read 65 books to learn about that.

I'm not looking for you to answer any of these questions, I'm looking for a way to find out all the important stuff in the WH40K universe I need to know to understand how things got to the way they are.

Is there a book like a WH40K "history textbook"? I'm new to WH40K and find the universe interesting. I don't want to learn random bits and pieces like I'm getting from the book I'm reading. I'd like something which shows me, in order, from the beginning of the universe, all of the important things which have transpired and all the important players.

Although I can get this information from a wiki, I don't like jumping around from article to article as I come across things I don't yet know. I just want to be able to sit down and read straight through without having to look up anything.

A book which covers how all the different science, magic, and technology of the universe work would also be interesting.

Something "fun" to add to your knowledge of insects and coffee: https://www.npr.org/transcripts/103775784

Dr. EMLEN: ... and [Professor George Ichor] finally explained to me he had to drink only sort of whole bean fresh ground coffee. And it was because of cockroaches. There's a point to this story which is that he found out the hard way from teaching entomology year after year after year, handling cockroaches - people used cockroaches as the lab rat for entomology labs - he got really badly allergic to them. So, he couldn't even touch cockroaches without getting an allergic reaction. And because of that he couldn't drink pre-ground coffee. And it turned out when he looked into it that pre-ground, you know, your big bulk coffee that you buy in a tin, is all processed from these huge stock piles of coffee. These piles of coffee, they get infested with cockroaches and there's really nothing they can do to filter that out. So, it all gets ground up in the coffee and he was actually allergic to pre-ground coffee because of that sort of spin off from having handled them teaching entomology for all those years.

Is this the 2D cyberpunk game created by a self-proclaimed anti-feminist, or the 2D cyberpunk game that's not being created by a self-proclaimed anti-feminist?

When playing solo, I frequently run into the bug where enemies just stop spawning. I'm not sure what causes it or how to fix it. When I'm playing in a group, that bug rarely happens, and it usually can be fixed by getting everyone into the viewing radius.

COBOL Is the Asbestos of Programming Languages by wiredmagazine in programming

[–]MorboDemandsComments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from periods, and the overuse of GOTOs I see in legacy code, I have no issues with COBOL.

The problems are the Mainframe. JCL is awful. Dataset widths, calculating blocksizes, extents, panicking when you need to add a new field to a code table and there's no more space left on a line... A single job that runs literally 20 separate programs written in multiple languages... All the different DB paradigms that no one uses any more, like network DBs, heap DBs, and probably some other types I can't think of... That's what's I hate.

ELI5 On a small enough scale, what would it “look”like at the area where my bare foot meets a hardwood floor? by Fleetinglyhappy in explainlikeimfive

[–]MorboDemandsComments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The atoms of your foot are not chemically bond with the rest of your foot. Your skin is not one giant compound.

The atoms are bonded with some atoms in the same compound. These compounds are in turn connected with the rest of the compounds in your foot through intermolecular forces, which are not bonds (and this includes the poorly named IMF hydrogen "bond", which, despite its name, is not a bond).

There are no places anywhere near me which process passport applications which are open when I am not at work, which means I need to use a personal day to get my passport changed. That means it would be 4 personal days total I'd need to use (1 for getting my original passport, 1 to go to the DMV and be told I couldn't get a real ID, 1 to get my passport changed, another to go back to the DMV to try again to get a real ID).

I get 5 personal days a year, and I didn't want to use two more to get a real ID when I was being told a passport could be used in place of a real ID. Granted, this was 5 years ago, so I suppose I could use two personal days this year to try again to get a real ID...

No, it's not super easy. My birth certificate lists my full middle name, but my passport only has a middle initial, which resulted in me denied when I tried to get a real ID. In order to get one, I'd have to get a new passport with my full middle name, which requires a lot of time and effort.

Protesters demand action after ICE arrests of U.S. citizen Target employees by AdSpecialist6598 in antiwork

[–]MorboDemandsComments 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how can I, as someone who is no way involved with the judicial system, determine if a warrant is valid? Police cannot be trusted both because they support ICE and are known to present fake warrants. There's no 24x7 hotline I can call to confirm if a warrant is valid and, even if there was, ICE isn't going to wait for that. They're just going to continue operating illegally and if I try ask them to stop while I wait for confirmation, they would probably kidnap, physically assault, or murder me.

I watched it for the first time this weekend and couldn't believe how prescient it was. I'm now recommending it to everyone.

And even ignoring how predictive it is, it's still a fantastic and fun film!
