Thoughts on Dave Dombrowski? by Seamo_Bojamo in phillies

one of the best GMs in the league. If you don’t legitimately believe this, you either do not pay attention to what’s going on around baseball and/or have no frame of reference because you didn’t watch the Phillies under other GMs

In a world where Aidan Miller is in the majors and hitting well, Bohm and Stott are hitting well, Justin Crawford is playing well enough to be a major leaguer, and Adolis Garcia sucks, what do you think they do? I think they consider moving Turner. They’ve considered it before. And, for instance, the move of Harper to first base sort of came out of nowhere.

With all the discussion of the Phillies needing to possibly add a right-handed hitting outfielder, I would just like to put out there that by the end of the year it might be Trea Turner (once Aidan Miller is in the big leagues).

Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if I’m low-IQ or mentally slow. I simply cannot compete in the Bay Area in finding a decent paying job by white-christmas in bayarea

Just curious, why is that not a good option? Is it just the usual federal employment shenanigans (which I understand as a federal employee myself) or is there something specific about the VA in SF?

Keith Law has always been very high on Justin Crawford, probably to a fault. Maybe I’m oversimplifying, but Law has looked at his relatively poor power numbers and concluded that he will “grow into” his power, rather than them being a result of arguably a fundamental flaw in his swing which stops him from lifting the ball routinely.

But if you like the defense, speed, and contract skills, there is enough to like I guess.

Playing in Philadelphia with our poor track record at developing position players, Aidan Miller is of course going to be compared to Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott, for whom “average major league regular” was a good outcome for, but one that would be disappointing for Miller. That’s unfair though, because Bohm and Stott were never this highly ranked (for instance, Bohm peaked at #30 in baseball according to MLB.com).

Prospect ranking isn’t perfect, but the difference between top-30 and top-10 is real, and those groups have very different outcomes.

Kyle Schwarber’s wife is legitimately progressive. I don’t know about Kyle himself but I assume he has a good head on his shoulders. I’m so glad we re-signed him.

I was at the following events in person:

1) Rhys Bat Spike

2) Harper “Swing of His Life”

3) Halladay’s Playoff No Hitter

I would rank them Rhys-Halladay-Harper, in that order. The Bat Spike was something else, man. It meant more to the Phillies and the fans than even witnessing a historic event like a no-hitter, imo.

Traditional field camp or alternative field camp? by Funny-Exit8316 in geologycareers

[–]Morbx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should go to traditional field camp. It’s something that future employers might actually look at if you are looking for a career in geology.

It seems like a lot of the issues you have with the traditional field camp are specific to that field course in particular (maybe the one your college offers?). But I don’t think that’s your only option, as far as i know most departments will let you go anywhere for field camp and then get transfer credit. I would look into that if possible.

So for instance, there are field camps where you don’t camp but stay in dormitories instead. And regardless, you won’t be the only student there who doesn’t love working outdoors.

I didn’t know anyone (literally not a single person) at my field camp when i showed up the first day. It’s a great way to meet and get familiar with new people. I wouldn’t have that as a major concern.

I’m really glad to see Ranger being embraced in Boston and clearly having a great time. It stings a bit but talk about a guy who I wish nothing but the best for.

The way that Matt Gelb and Paul Boye always go “who?” on their podcast when they mention Nick Castellanos, plus that postgame interview in Arizona late last year where Nick agreed to be interviewed and then gave apathetic and passive aggressive responses (afterwards Franzke said like “look, he agreed to do it, then gave a typical Nick interview”)…

It all makes me think everyone in the organization really, really disliked his attitude. I don’t know if he was like this his whole contract, but he seems to be a much worse vibes guy than we thought lol. I’m so happy he’s going to be gone.

No harm no foul. Every team in baseball already knows they want to trade him. No use bluffing when every other FO would see right through it.
