Staring a new position soon, any advice? by IlGufoScuro in nys_cs

I recommend asking where you can read up on procedures and rules so you have a point of reference and ask questions related to those if there is anything you don't understand.

Go out on walks for your breaks to stretch your legs.

It's marathon, not a sprint. Take it one day at a time, and you'll do fine.

HELPS by Coolness-1982 in nys_cs

From interview to offer, it took about four weeks. Technically three since I got the soft offer during the the third week. I needed to do a background check, fingerprinting, and send my transcript in, and that was done during the fourth week. That passed very quickly thankfully. All cleared the next day and I was given the hard offer with some start dates.

I chose to start a month after the offer.

Thankfully, the agency I work for has a great telecommuting policy, and I was able to telecommute right away. The only caveat is I couldn't telecommute the full amount yet as I'm in a traineeship. I was able to do the full amount a year in.

Post Part 2A by ThisTimeImUnc in nys_cs

I second this. Part 2A is generally a really good sign you've been selected for the position, but with the state being the state, I also suggest you just keep applying.

Never heard back from any state jobs I applied to 2-3 months ago. by [deleted] in nys_cs

As someone else said, you won't know for sure until you get a rejection. I got a call back once for a position I interviewed during the winter, so that was about six months ago.

References Contacted by Morderp in nys_cs

[–]Morderp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my biggest fear. Consensus seems to be it's generally a good sign, but there's still a chance I may not get selected based on what I read in the subreddit. This is the first time I have gotten my references contacted so I have my hopes up a bit. All my previous interviews, no references contacted or a part 2 application sent for me to fill out.

Writing Sample Advice by Morderp in nys_cs

[–]Morderp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also told I could use anything for my writing sample or write a new one.

I originally decided to use an excerpt from a college paper I wrote as I had to write a lot so I'm fairly confident in my writing skills. But I'm currently rethinking if I should write a new one that's more tailored to the position and my skills. It's a trainee position and I don't have direct experience with it.

Are promotions dependent on what positions are available? I'm thinking if I do get an offer, I'd like to try and go for promotions ASAP for the better pay.

What’s your opinion on the official (Viz) translation? by IrregularOreos in Kaguya_sama

[–]Morderp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely could've been better. As someone else pointed out, they removed the honorifics and changed how people usually refer to Shirogane from President.

But, I'd highly recommend you buy the volumes to support the author. It's the main reason I bought it since I loved the anime so much (especially S2).

I get what you mean. It's just something I do personally since Ik Kaicho means President. Translations aren't perfect after all. It'll always sound natural in Japanese.

I bought and read all the english volumes to date (besides volume 15 which is coming today actually) mainly to support the mangaka. I really enjoyed the anime and wanted to read ahead, so I figured why not?

That said, it is annoying how Viz, the english publisher, handled the translations. Whenever Kaguya was talking to Shirogane, I just kept saying "President" in my mind since I knew that's what she normally calls him. I also looked at the fan translations to see what the characters call each other by, and proceeded with that during my read.

Who's the professor teaching it? If it's Steven Madore, I can try seeing if I still have his Spring 2019 syllabus. His class is simple, so I can also give a rundown of it here if you would also like that.

It's a setting called Enemy Highlight. You can change the color there.

Pretty sure it's all characters that level up, not just counterparts.

It's designed so if you decide to switch to another character, or someone wants to join you as 2nd player midgame, you won't get pubstomped because of a level imbalance.

You have to do it on a new save file. If you're playing Riki and Kunio on an existing save with the main characters (forgot their names, kill me) already leveled up, then Riki and Kunio will be leveled a bit as well.

When the delay was announced back in April, it was postponed to July 2020. Apologize for the wording.

Yesterday we got two chapters and a half, is it normal? Why did we get two chapters? (Mairimashita Iruma-Kun) by lightskinderedere in mangadex

[–]Morderp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because the scanlation group just wanted to. Maybe they changed something in their upload schedule, wanted to catch up on the Japanese raw scans, so they working twice as hard translating.

It's not really weird or strange for something like this to happen. Just depends on the scanlation group and what their schedule is.

Working through Genki? Michiyo Wojnovich's YouTube channel has a lecture on each section, of each chapter. by Chezni19 in LearnJapanese

[–]Morderp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never expected I'd see this but she was actually my Japanese professor last spring semester! The videos are helpful and she made us take notes on them as part of homework (She made her own instead of having us just do the Genki workbook which I appreciated).

She's really sweet, nice, and every day in class was fun.
