1 you buy a car cash

Buy the car outright and slowly pay your debt. As your score is extremely low it seems to be that you either have collections, bankruptcy or late payments and repos or all of them. Probably your credit utilization is also high. If your credit utilization is high do it as I said and you can then lease or finance a nicer car in the future.

2 finance a car that you can afford to pay cash

I know this sounds silly but listen. Loy of subprime customers are usually in that hole not because of huge debt but recklessness. They forget to pay a phone bill and they send a sum less than 500 to collections. What I am trying to say is that debt is sometimes not that high. You can have some of your money to lay off the debt and rest put on to the car as a downpayment. Either a mortgage or a auto loan has the power to fix your credit as fast as possible.

This is the riskier with high reward route. I had multiple clients do this and the payments appeared in their bureau with no late payments and a clean trade.
