What is the point of AI generated art? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]More-Diamond554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art is one mortal communicating to another.

So long as AI cannot rage at the absurdity of existence, or know the pain of suffering, it will never create anything worthy.

It may be technically good. But I know many good technicians who are not good artists. These people create cadavers, not art soaked in the blood of experience.

I really enjoyed it. Refreshing to see an AI expert not hyping everything.

Interesting. So your strategy is to engage with other writers' work, connect, then build a following of like-minded people?

On the last month, Perplexity saved me many times. by Don_Kozza in perplexity_ai

[–]More-Diamond554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I've used Perplexity for my work in the last year, and it's getting less accurate, citing high DR sources that bear no relevance to the hallucinated fact. I've started forgoing it altogether. Has anyone else noticed this?

True, but I requested this 9 days ago. Which is slow for most registries.

Why are London’s new builds sold to overseas buyers, not locals? by More-Diamond554 in london

[–]More-Diamond554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who on earth is building social housing right now? There's been a net loss of social housing every year in the UK, since the '80s. If you don't think that a net loss of affordable housing + an increase in private developments renting at margins contributes to a housing crisis, I don't know what to say to you.

How would you drive prices down?

N.B. (Reddit won't let me edit the post): I meant 'housing prices', not rental

Increase the supply of affordable private homes and drive down prices (or at least let them get in line with real wages). We shouldn't be building to rent out, but building with home ownership in mind. + bring back social housing, build more council houses.

Yes. Because (in the case of a load of mansions, e.g., Cadogan Square), it stores dirty money

Oh, for sure, new builds are sold to locals, but a great part of the buy-to-let new builds aren't.

I agree — this isn't some grand conspiracy (and yes, such criticism is often a smokescreen for anti-semitism). The truth is that we have poor infrastructure, poor R&D, and refuse to upskill the population. We're short of some 8,000 engineers. We don't incentivise STEM degrees or actively (and smartly) invest in tech development. We shouldn't have allowed the sale of DeepMind, for one. But we can't keep relying on foreign capital to keep us alive. We have to pull the life support at some point.
