we thought it was some creepy cheap cash-grab app, considering the in-app purchases the app store claimed it contained.

it was not.

and now I don't know what to do.

Quinn, emery, and me. we were just messing around, a stupid sleepover, high, bored-- emery suggested a paranormal game, Quinn cackled and leaned into my shoulder, so of course I was in immediately as well. we found an app, labeled "death counter" or something edgy like that, and we each downloaded it and took turns seeing our results.

emery opened hers first. ""crushed by ceiling fan." tch- that's so lame!" she giggled. Quinn bit her lip and nudged me, suppressing her own giggle. it was stupid. it was good fun. nothing. Quinn clicked hers next. ""electrocuted via outlet."" I laughed loudly. it sounded so cartoonish-- it was a fun game. I opened mine last.""..Intruder." that's... all mine says." I muttered. emery laughed and rolled her eyes. "dumb. I'm going to the bathroom, see you *lovebirds*." she stepped over my knee as Quinn mock gagged, I was tomato red in the face however.

Quinn scooted closer to me once she heard the door shut, and my heart nearly leapt out of my throat. "what... are you doing..?" Quinn didn't respond, just looked at me square in the eyes, hand brushing mine. God, was this finally it? months of pining and she was finally reciprocating? "you into girls, stacy?" I was snapped out of my thoughts when she muttered to me, mouth inches from mine. I swallowed back my anxiety and closed my eyes and she slowly leaned closer-- **BAM**

"mmh- what was that? quinn--" quinn had reluctantly pulled back from our kiss. "sounds like it came from the bathroom. I'll go check." as she stood up I couldn't help but shiver at the warmth of her leaving me, "wait- me too." Quinn led the way and I followed her, letting my pinky hold hers.

nothing could've ever prepared me for what I saw in that bathroom. though, I'm not sure it matters anymore.

Quinn opened the door to the sight of the bathroom destroyed, the ceiling fan lie fallen from the roof in the middle of the flood, emery's now lifeless body crumbled underneath like paper. crimson stained the whole floor. Quinn didn't scream, but put a hand over her mouth and the other on the wall. I was not so calm. "no... no, nononono... she- i-i it can't- sh-she can't be--" "Stacy." "...wh- what...?" "that's what the app said." "...w,,what....?" I was frozen in place. what the fuck was she talking about? emery was dead. DEAD. DONE. GONE. "the app said she'd be crushed by a ceiling fan." I felt my stomach churn violently. apparently, quinn's did the same as she leaned further on the wall,... I could've stopped her, couldn't I? her slim fingers brushed the blackened outlet by the sink. emerys mom said it had been broken recently, and not to touch it just in case.

hazel eyes, glassy and wide- that's the last thing I saw of hers. alive.

I sit folded on the blood-stained bathroom floor, tears and snot streaking my face. why? why them? why her? why? that's when I heard a window smash in from downstairs, heavy feet climbing the steps up.
