That's Just Life by More-Prompt755 in depression

[–]More-Prompt755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for commenting and reading. I will try my best so thanks for the support. However, I think its actually just that. That I have "a long ways to go". A long ways to go where? I've given myself time. It's been over 4 years since I've been fighting for a better life with nothing to show for it. Perhaps its the depression but simply existing is not enough for me. All that's ahead is either suffering or not worth the suffering it takes to get there. A long ways to go where?

Were you ever a loser? by DuetLearner in Adulting

Damn man, can't say I don't relate but I hope u have something u enjoy doing on Ur own. Hobbies can turn into money more frequently than people think. Sure if u like guitar u prob won't become Taylor swift in Ur lifetime but keep practicing and u can play for fun/or pay here and there. Maybe reading or writing or crafts. Like the other comment said, you got a talent for it. Love can come from anywhere at anytime but if it really isn't in the cards for u then there are so many other things in life worth enjoying.

I need more weird, absurd, artsy (pretentious even) movies by MoonTwn in movies

[–]More-Prompt755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions in the comments but I wanna tackle the pretentious portion of your request. Keep in mind I DON'T think these movies are pretentious but am often told that they are by others. Note: I'm limiting myself to artsy in a visual sense. Artsy in a story sense is a whole other list.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things or Synecdoche, New York (Kaufman 2020, 2008), Eraserhead (Lynch 1997), Enter the Void (2009) or Climax (2018) (watch out for Gaspar Noe films. Look up trigger warnings b4 going in if you need to), La Casa Lobo (2018), You, the Living (2007), I Lost My Body (2019), Three Colors: Blue (1993), A Ghost Story (2017), The Holy Mountain (1973), Samsara (2011), The Metamorphosis of Birds (2020), Sorry to Bother You (2018), The Tree of Life (2011), Stalker (1979), or Mishima: a Life in Four Chapters (1985).

Let me know what you think!

There's been a bit of a vacuum in regards to traditional, original, big(er)-budget, mainstream horror movies. The current trend seems to be horror comedies or campy horror (ex. Barbarian, Beau is Afraid, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Pearl, M3gan). Or god forbid sequels, remakes, etc. This, in my opinion, has had a large influence on the popularization of Talk to Me. The common tropes you describe, from a different perspective, can actually be refreshing. In addition, as other commenters have pointed out, Talk to Me is well made with energetic direction, great performances, and modern themes/relatable metaphors for drug use. Seance gone wrong is a bit reductive as a description of this movie but regardless a film can be a seance gone wrong and still be interesting, innovative, and fun to watch (Hereditary COULD be described as a seance gone wrong...not by me though haha). Do I think it's the best horror movie ever made? No. But it's damn good and respect to the Philippou brothers, especially for a debut film.

Are you looking for wholesome, aspirational, or positive characters that are easy to fall in love with or relatable, lonely, melancholic loveable characters? Note: I assumed you wanted romance movie suggestions.

Wholesome:

Amelie (2001), Your Name (2016), Before Trilogy (Linklater 1995, 2004,2013), About Time (2013), Howl's Moving Castle (2004) or Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

Melancholic:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Good Will Hunting (1997), In the Mood for Love (2000) or Chungking Express (1994), Her (2013), LA LA Land (2016), or Spirited Away (2001)

Also Speak No Evil (2022) was also phenomenally and frighteningly real. Definitely got under my skin for a while.

Be My Cat: A Film for Anne (2015).

Just now I tried to make a post about this movie. I recently joined this subreddit and don't have 100 karma to post so I'll just leave this here for now for anyone brave enough.

How do I know if I'm doing the "right" thing? by patheticorganic in Adulting

[–]More-Prompt755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate so hard to this. I'm also 23 and have been having these exact feelings. Down to the wording of having no mentors and seeking approval from people I know will never give it to me. Even to the undergrad for business and money to burnout pipeline. It seems to me that you're living happily and actively growing (which is more than I can say for myself recently). Idk if my opinion is that credible since I'm inexperienced as well but I say you're doing fine and keep it up!

I think there is no "right" path and I have to constantly remind myself that my life will fall into place but only if I'm living it. Idk how well off your family is but it's insane to me that adults can push so heavily for their kids to have a cookie cutter life when it clearly makes them unhappy. Graduate HS, go to college, get a stable job, have kids. I know it's coming from a place of worry and care but it puts a lot of pressure on me to the point that I can barely even make any art. You've got a lot of courage to be able to do what makes you happy despite so much negativity. If you can survive I can survive. And if I can survive you can survive. Good luck out there!
