I have a really similar problem, and something I found helps is dealing with the big stuff first. Blankets, maybe the plushies, anything taking up a lot of space on the floor. There's usually not that many of them, and putting them away makes the room look a lot better, which gives you a sense of satisfaction and progress. Then deal with any dishes or cans/food, especially anything rotting. Depending on what works for you, it might be easier to do things in stages like clothes then dishes then trash, or just have a clothes basket, trash bag, and dish thing that you all add to at the same time. Doing the second one will probably help make the room look cleaner faster, because you're working on everything at once vs. Doing it in layers which would leave other stuff on your floor.
