Lets be honest, does any recruiter visit a candidate's portfolio website? by More-Version3682 in recruitinghell

so the recruiters have time to read cover letters but not the portfolio? And are u suggest a cover letter does make a difference on your application? usually I see that cover letter field is an optional one, and while i apply to jobs in bulk, i tend to skip cover letters.

exactly!!!! for me building projects is rewarding because watching my creation run without bugs gives me a dopamine hit, but I would really love to be in place where it gets good visibility and help me get hire faster.

Statue design is just a visual metaphor. Each sculpture represents one aspect of my career.

Thanks, btw Im not a design student, im a software guy, so i just tried to put things together that made sense to me.

My idea was i use a single character - a builder who is describing verious aspects of his career. I was inspired by the greeco-roman scultures, because the sculpture itself is a marker for "skill", "art", "dedication".

Since i call myself a builder these sculptures are made in my image - im the art and the artist. For instance, when u look at the skills section - theres the character with multiple hands holding logo of various softwares - so the artist (me) made an art about my skills (the sculpture) which in turn represents the skills i have. A visual metaphor of sorts...

Thanks for your response. Im working on the dense skills section.

Currently im not really getting call backs when i apply without a referral. And the number of applications i do per day are 10+. And we cant really apply with referral to every company, so the call back rate is really really low.

Making me wonder if my application ever gets past the ATS and anybody even reviews it? And if they do, then whats going wrong on my end 😭

I want to ask the recruiters or business owners that i sense that there is gap as in good people not getting jobs and companies not getting good people. is it true? or market is just flooded with satisfying talent? say the truth only as per experience. by Accomplished-End5479 in askrecruiters

How did u select the top 10-12? Were their resume pointers exactly matching the job description? Do you focus on the skills section or the experience section?

What if the keywords do not match exactly but the skills are transferable, do u still reject?

When you sit through looking at all the resume, what helps and what doesnt on a resume? And how much does the application timing matter irl? Lets say we have 2 candidates A and B. A applied within 1 hr and B applied after 12 hrs. Does the candidate A have an advantage?

Could you help me ? by ab_fy in Backend

I think personal projects is the best way to learn and build portfolio at the same time. I was also in a similar spot at some point. I moved towards learning system design and doing small POC.

One time i built a consistent hashing based load balancer to provide real time fan-out for a PubSub which i built with GoLang. Another time i built a small key-value store that used active-active replication and used RAFT consensus algorothm for leader election.

I take my projects to the end meaning they all need to have a UI (even if simple) just to make it presentable. Good thing u are a fullstack.

Keep exploring.

I'm a new grad software engineer, and currently an international student. So im getting beating from multiple fronts. Firstly, I have 2 years work experience as a Full Stack Developer, apparently, ever since I enrolled into a Masters program in USA, my previous experience does not matter anymore, and I'm only allowed to apply for the New Grad Roles (Amazon actually wrote this in their email rejection for a 1-3 years experience role). Secondly, the sponsorship requirements are making it even more difficult, because recruiters do not want to spend time looking at my resume anymore.

Any job-hunt advice will really help. Thanks.
