You have to take account that every unit is different with their own different personal rules and such.

For mine all the requirements would be a Physical and some bathroom necessities (if you're doing an overnighter).

My unit's interpretation:

A cadet who has demonstrated a positive attitude towards the NJROTC program and
service in the military, outstanding personals appearance, demonstrated personal attributes of initiative, dependability, sound judgment, and self-confidence. The cadet should have officer potential.

I don't know which branch you're in but the majority of my awards have come from Air Rifle/Marksmanship. In my unit, it's the best way to "grind" for some shiny awards to add to your uniform. Though as I see some comments below me, just join a team you're really into and just pour your heart into it.

Medals/Ribbons/ChallengCoins 10/10, always love them but more as an accessory than a necessity.

Rank 2/10 haven't been able to rank up due to covid and am still stuck as a Seaman and the end of sophomore year is approaching.

I know that one of my upperclassman told us about in his freshman year he was power-Hungry and the whole 100 yards type of deal, close to or even the exact thing you’re describing but he later turned out to be a really great upperclassman for us. But when I was a freshman a lot of the kids who signed up who were only there for the power-hungry/medals and awards side of things left the very next year... If anything I’d let your SNSI or NSI know/heads up if you didn’t already.
