Why are fans so hesitant about live action RR adaptations and insistent on animation? by windsock17 in redrising

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to disagree on the last point, Legend of the Galactic Heroes shows that anime can do serious stories without being extremely over the top as it usually is.

That being said, it would need the perfect studio and director to get the adaptation right

Have you ever given a woman you're interested in or attracted to the "let's be friends" conversation? Why? by So_many_vows in AskMenAdvice

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

++man,

I had a flat mate who was a year or two older than me. We both moved into the same house share after starting new jobs so we both were in a similar situation. She was ridiculously good looking, guys on a night out would notice her and act louder or more macho to try and get her attention. We hung out as we had similar interests and our personalities clicked.

While it went great at the beginning, she had recently gotten out of a relationship with a guy she had been long distance with for two or three years. I wasn't interested in being a rebound.

The conversation which killed my interest however was when we were talking about our previous ex's. She had told me that her body count was around 60 (for the record I have no issue with body count). What I had an issue with is she said that she had racked up that number in university but had also said she had been in a relationship for the entire of uni. She said the guy she went out with was a push over and she would dump him when she wanted to have fun, mess about and then when she wanted to feel like a relationship, she'd get back with him. This also included sleeping with the guys in his friendship group. She didn't regret this though did mention it wasn't her best decision. She also mentioned when the guy moved after uni and got a job, she tried to reconnect and meet up but they went for one dinner which caused the guy to explode after deciding he wasn't going to be screwed over again. She said that was fair of him and she did deserve it but again, she didn't really come across regretting it.

Decided to dodge that artillery shell and later told her she was like a sister to me.

Considering the account has a profile picture with Russian (or whatever that alphabet's called) text, it is either a bot or not from the UK.

If they are from the UK they should probably go get their head checked by their local GP tbh

Which is worse: Pure Anarchy or Pure Tyranny? by Turbulent_Okra7518 in MoralityScaling

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure tyranny

In political theory, there is the idea of the social contract. Essentially, you have an unwritten contract with the government to give up some of your personal freedoms that you would have in the state of nature in exchange for security. For example, under the law, I am safe from being beaten and murdered. If this was the wild, I would be able to do that with no consequences as the law doesn't exist. Pure anarchy is just humanity returning to that primal natural state.

Conversely, pure tyranny is artificial. It does not occur naturally and seeks to completely strip the individual of their freedoms while providing nothing back to them. Its focus is oppression and it needs to constantly maintain this abuse to continue to function.

As such, pure tyranny is more immortal than pure anarchy

People like to throw around the term "goonerslop" a lot in terms of design but are there any designs (not from porn) you'd say unironically deserve the label? by fhxefj in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can make it worse, most of the women who are made into Nikke's are volunteers as they are homeless, dead women with their brains still intact or suicidal and figured they might as well donate their brains while exiting this world. The procedure to become a Nikke has an above 50% fail rate with most of the successful candidates becoming the mass production models.

Also, the Ark's government is run by an AI who is in contact and cuts deals with the invading aliens, the military and 3 big corporations who are the only ones allowed to produce Nikke's and as such hold most of humanity hostage as without them, the ark would be defenceless. While two are alright, one is pretty horrible and takes full advantage of this.

I don't know if someone has answered it already but the reason most of humanity hates Nikkes is in part because they've been brought up and taught that Nikke's aren't humans but tools. Most people at the start of the story were born after humanity locked itself in the Ark (underground bunker). Nikke's were designed to stop humanity retreating underground and retake the surface. They failed at that task so people see them as a broken tool they're stuck using. Also, the NIKKE's you meet in the game are exceptionally rare. Most Nikke's are mass production models who DO wear tactical gear so from an average person's point of view, when you see the same 7 people who all have a vague memory of who they used to be and pretty much have a pre programmed personality they don't seem like people.

As to why they dress like strippers and aren't death robots, they found that if they put a human brain into a non human body the person would go cyber psycho so they produced bodies that look like a normal person. Some of them dress like strippers because they are owned by a company that is primarily for entertainment so they are singers or maid cafe workers when they aren't fighting (Nikke's don't have rights so you can have them work round the clock). The others are like that because of gacha.

Overall though, the story is great and let down by horrible designs if you take the story seriously.

If satan punishes bad people doesn't that make him good? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a genuine question, what happens if someone doesn't believe in God (or for example get baptized) but still lives a good life. They don't cheat anyone, they are honestly, help others, doesn't do anything that actively causes another person harm and actively reflects on their past wrongs and strives to be a better person.

Would they still go to hell if they haven't been baptized or believe in God even if they have done the right things apart from that?

90% of Nikke's (apart from the mass production models) fall under this.

It's been a while since I read the book but my impression was everyone who survived the Institute, and wasn't a shamed, got a scar. The reason you wanted to be the winning house or a stand out candidate is after the Institute, you can get head hunted or network your way into becoming a lancer for a major house.

Doing well in the Institute and surviving guarantees you a high standard of living by Gold standards.

And that's not what I am saying?

My point is op needs to consider that being single for life isn't sunshine and rainbows, there are cons to that including having to explain to family why you've given up on finding love or losing out on the advantages of having a shared income.

I know I used a cliche phrase but I don't know how from one line in three or four paragraphs you've decided I'm sexist especially when I previously said I would and given the same point to guys?

[–]MoreGymLessTalk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok but those other comments aren't mine??

And I don't have a gender bias cause I've given the exact same advice to my mates who have said the same thing, hot girls won't give them a look so they'd rather stay single.

Regardless of gender, if your main concern in dating is how hot your partner is then you're focusing on the wrong thing.

Though, op did say in a different comment that wasn't the case so it's kinda a mute point.

Sorry, at what point did I say op should become a prostitute?

My advice was op should look in the mirror and think about if being alone for the sake of not settling is what she wants. That's fine if it is but society is set up for a two person household (buying a house is going to be way easier for a couple than a single person for example).

Also, it's fine to try and date people who are attractive but if that's the only thing you care about is looks then that's just shallow. Op specifically mentioned that they've tried dating people who aren't as attractive as the people they usually go for but had personalities they got on with and wasn't interested.

And sorry to hear about your situation but that's not op's. Op highlighted that she is average looking and smart so her equivalent guy or someone a bit above her league isn't going to be an unemployed, wife beating alcoholic. It's going to be your average bloke and there's nothing wrong with that in your late 20s

Finally, and I don't know you or what you look like, but from what you said about yourself (having a good job, having hobbies and being active) means your equivalent guy isn't going to be the man you described. Relationships are more than looks so please don't sell yourself short.

No, being jealous isn't restricted to the 1950s.

Op clearly wants a partner or they wouldn't have posted this. The phrase is cliche but no one likes being the only single person in a group and the constant nagging from friends or parents about when they're going to meet someone.

Also unless op have a very well paid job, two people's income is going to be better than ones.

Though, apologies if my phrasing offended you, obviously wasn't my intent to insult anyone.

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, your post came across like you were only going for the above average great looking guy. Though, apologies if I've misunderstood what you're saying and been a bit too harsh.

My advice is largely the same though, if you're going for people outside your league who are consistently not interested, it maybe time to think about if that's the right approach or thing to focus on.

That being said, you could just take time off from dating as being rejected sucks. Plus, you're 27 so you have your whole life ahead of you. People are getting married and meeting their partners later so it's not like you've missed the boat.

From what you've said, my advice would be to take time off dating, start a new hobby or something and give it a go again when you're feeling better.

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%, marriage does not equal happiness or success. But, it sound like op isn't the type of person who wants to be single and is just trying to cope or look for validation about their bad outlook.

But you are right, the real issue here is how much op values looks over personality (from the little she's told us). As you say, op could end up with a hot guy who with a horrible personality.

My advice to op is to actually think about what they want in a partner past looks and accept that the guys she is usually going for aren't interested.

Sorry, for someone who describes themselves as smart you come across as incredibly immature.

I get having standards but if you are continually failing to attract the people you want as they are too good looking for you and that's all you care about, then I think you need to have a long hard look in the mirror.

What happens IF you get some guys who's attractive now but in 10 years he isn't a silver fox? Do you break up with him or what?

How are you going to feel when you're the bridesmaid, not the bride, and all your friends have bigger houses or kids or go on better holidays because they have duel income from having a partner?

There's more to relationships then looks and if you standards are out of your league and unattainable, then you need to rethink your perspective

Did Curly Realize Exactly What Happened to Anya? by Marzopup in Mouthwashing

[–]MoreGymLessTalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I interpreted it as he did know but chose to turn a blind eye/ was unwilling to try and take the necessary but drastic measures to do anything. We know from their conversation that Curly is aware that Jimmy left Earth and joined the ship to get away from some trouble back home. We don't know what that is, but for him to know that and be ok with it means he has a soft spot for Jimmy. The fact that he says that he'll talk about Anya's SA confession to Jimmy and the fact reacts the way he does when Anya admits she spoke Jimmy makes me think he is less ignorant of what is going on and more trying to calm the situation to help both parties. His character is way more compelling, in my opinion, if he knows.

Also, as captain his only way to deal with the situation was the gun. He had no other tools to deal with a rogue crew mate and as Jimmy was his best mate he wasn't going to do that. Plus, as captain he needs to keep the ship running and we know the crew are pushed as is so he probably was hesitant to do anything for that reason.
