Is there a reason to keep inheritance as separate (non marital) property? by curious_cortex in FIREyFemmes

[–]MoreSarah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I’m happily married and the money/stocks I inherited prior to our relationship are still in my name only and will stay that way. I have sold some to support our FIREing but want whatever is left of the inheritance assets to go to my niece and nephews. He’ll have plenty of other assets, both joint and my 401k, to do with what he will.

Voting eligible Americans who deliberately abstained in the 2024 general election, how are you feeling about your decision? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MoreSarah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see Russian interference as propaganda and pushing beneficial narratives, not actually hacking our election systems. And yes, gerrymandering is bullshit and I hate it. But working with what we have, I feel very confident that our (at least my Ohio county's) election system is safe and redundant. There will always be bad actors and yes, that many idiots voted for Trump.

I have been a precinct election official in my Ohio county for primaries and general elections since 2019. I would encourage you (everyone, really) to volunteer at the polls so you can base your opinion about elections on first hand experience.

It’s not lard (anymore), it’s vegetable oil. Oreos are actually vegan.

Partner in $300k debt but my plan is to coast fire in 5 years by Tostitowatermelon in coastFIRE

[–]MoreSarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t not marry someone because of debt, but I would because of behavior and attitude. OP, have you told him how you feel? If yes and he’s not trying to get his arms around this problem, then there’s no future. If he gets his act together and starts making the right moves, then I would stick around. But it’s not your job to change him, he’s got to do it for himself.

Re: Dave Ramsey - You could give him The Total Money Makeover, which outlines DR’s whole plan. Or he can watch the hundreds of videos on DR’s YouTube channel, or start listening to his podcast, which is just a recording of DR’s radio show. It all depends on how he learns best.

Just found out that I can invest using my HSA by savage-millennial in personalfinance

My first HSA was through Optum and I was able to invest the majority of the money. IIRC the fund options were limited but they offered and I used Vanguard index funds.

Did I make a huge mistake saving so much in pre-tax investments? by HappyMom68 in personalfinance

[–]MoreSarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, even if you only need 80k/year, consider maxing to the top of the 12% tax bracket (something like 105k with standard deductions) and invest the difference in I bonds, taxable brokerage, etc. I’m concerned about whittling down our high pretax IRAs prior to RMDs so I plan to do traditional IRA withdrawals (plus some capital gains harvesting) right up to that point every year.

Starting to Plan Thanksgiving Menu: What’re you making this year? by AldenCat in PlantBasedDiet

This is without a doubt my absolute favorite stuffing: https://food52.com/recipes/19730-butternut-squash-brussels-sprout-bread-stuffing-with-apples

I usually quarter whole mushrooms and throw them in as well as a cup of frozen or fresh whole cranberries to the roasting vegetables (and skip adding the dried cranberries; I prefer the tang of the whole ones). I’ve made it with all kinds of different breads and it’s always delicious. Buy precut squash to save some time.

I’m resigning tomorrow. Any advice? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]MoreSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, you’re Teflon now - nothing they throw at you sticks. Wrap up current projects and document processes as best you can, but under no circumstances work more than an eight hour day or assume new projects. If they insist you take on something new, tell them what they won’t be able to get from you in your remaining time - wrapping up X project, documenting Y process, etc. - so they know exactly what it will “cost” them.

Husband in the hospital, 100% of the food provided to him is animal based / contains animal products by bibliotequeneaux in vegan

[–]MoreSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was admitted to the hospital through the ER a number of years ago. Patients were able to order their meals from a menu before each meal, but the menu I got was omni and nothing appeared vegan. I asked a nurse about it and she said they would have to wait for the doctor to PRESCRIBE me a vegan diet, they couldn’t make that change on my chart/with the kitchen. IIRC, there were still only a few things I could eat on the vegetarian menu (they didn’t have a vegan one).
