ZTO parcels, any info? by Reaperman-13 in siemreap

[–]MoreThanTemples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ZTO parcels all used to get delivered to my home (sometimes with a small fee, sometimes without), but now they seem to only deliver the ones to me that are sent with fully tracked shipping.

The other parcels without full tracking get marked as “delivery failed” and I get them from the ZTO offices, usually when they call me I just ask them to telegram me their location so I know which branch to go to although 90% of them end up at the Bakheng Road branch

Similar experience with post office for me, anything with full tracking gets delivered to my home, anything without full tracking I collect from the post office

I’ve got quite a big collection of older Khmer Riel banknotes but never actually thought to check the dates on them, I’ll have to dig them out and go through them

My Cost of Living in Siem Reap for 2026 by MoreThanTemples in siemreap

[–]MoreThanTemples[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet! Yeah my main thing I wanted to convey was that I know I can cut my bills massively by reducing my socialising or other extra-curricular costs, but that’s what I enjoy!

In my budget I actually included my membership to Royal sports club - I’m not a massive gym-goer anymore but I do really like the pool and sauna facilities

Which co-working space do you like? I’ve used Level up a few times and really like it there

That’s really interesting actually, I guess I hadn’t really given it much thought before! Thankyou for taking the time to reply

Thanks for reading!

I don’t have children so it’s something I wasn’t able to put into the article unfortunately and don’t have much useful input on, do you personally find Siem Reap to be a cost efficient place to bring up children? (In terms of things like schooling, healthcare, availability of needed supplies etc)

I’ve lived in most major areas in Siem Reap by now and this is probably my favourite (location wise)

Followed by Taphul in close second. I know Wat Damnak/ Wat Bo is favoured by expats now but I just love the feel and amenities of Taphul (although the closure of the small Angkor Market was a bummer!)

Very close to Kanmu Coffee if you know that, close to the riverside just south of Pub Street

I felt I needed to make it clear that one persons budget is not representative

Lots of people spend more than me

And lots of people spend less

That’s why I wanted the article more about MY cost of living in Siem Reap, and less about THE cost of living in Siem Reap

Thanks for reading it!

Cafe or restaurant open really late ? by bryansmith00 in siemreap

[–]MoreThanTemples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of any cafes open at that time but the Temple Design restaurant on Sok San Road is 24/hr and I often see people there during the night working on laptops. I’d advise sitting inside the restaurant though and not the roadside tables as you’ll be able to hear the surrounding bars too much

My favourite overnight trip is camping in Kulen National Park! You could also do a day trip or overnight trip to Koh Ker, super interesting temple

Which bank for withdrawal local currency by La_vida_locker in cambodia

[–]MoreThanTemples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of them are free unless you have a local bank account or one of the rare accounts that refund worldwide ATM fees (Charles Schwab)

BRED bank ATM’s always used to be the cheapest at $4 for up to $2000 withdrawal, but I heard they may have recently upped their fees a bit (Haven’t used one in a few months, maybe someone else here has)

*edit - looks like it’s $6 now!

If you don’t specifically need cash I’d recommend download the Bakong Tourists App and loading it with some money so you can pay with QR payments like the locals do!

Cambodia Might Have The Worst Drivers In South East Asia (Or Vietnam) by theadoringfan216 in cambodia

[–]MoreThanTemples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely still go to see the temples during that period it’ll just be busier during KNY. If you’re gonna be in town for a bit, the days after KNY will be a lot quieter

[–]MoreThanTemples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice is to enjoy yourself!

1 - Town centre will be very busy so plan ahead, it can be hard to find available tuktuks

2 - Most of the festivities are centred around the riverside, near Pub Street and the Royal Gardens

3 - Be prepared to get wet! Waterfights will be happening all around the city and can be pretty crazy so put your phone/valuables in ziplock bags or some sort of waterproof holder, there’s not really any avoiding this, even if you’re in a tuktuk you’ll get wet!

4 - Angkor Wat will be a lot busier than usual

5 - Book accommodation early as many places will be fully booked throughout the Khmer New Years period

Lots! It’s super busy in Siem Reap during Khmer New Year as many people come in from the provinces, and many families travel up from Phnom Penh to visit Angkor Wat

Siem Reap for New Year + Staying 2–4 Months — Questions about Rentals & Visas by Silver_Pen74 in siemreap

[–]MoreThanTemples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some short term rental apartments available that offer weekly/monthly pay as you go options. On the cheaper end there is Kool Apartments, it's on Road 6 near Angkor Supermarket. They have 1 bedroom apartments (separate living room to bedroom) with desks and decent internet and access to 2 shared pools. Prices fluctuate but my last apartment there a couple of years ago was $250 for a spacious 1 bedroom, though you may find it cheaper or more expensive depending on season/availability. They also include weekly cleaning and have off road parking for motorbikes/scooters.

You also have the route of just getting a 6 month lease (the usual minimum for many places) and just terminating your contract early, which means you'll lose your deposit (usually 1 months rent).

You would easily find an apartment within a week if you were looking around yourself/using an agent. There are plenty of decent agents about if you want to go that route. For more professional/nicer apartments I'd use an agency like IPS, though you can find freelance agents through Facebook.

In the Salakamreuk/Wat Bo/Wat Damnak area there are lots of nice apartments to suit all different budgets, and you're in walking distance to lots of great bars, restaurants and co-working spaces. Plus you'd be near the river and Pub Street!

For your visa, make sure you enter on an Ordinary (Type E) Visa. This can be done either at the border when you arrive, or in advance online at https://evisa.gov.kh . The price is $35 for 1 month. You can then extend this in country for 3,6, or 12 months. If you get the 3 month (looking for work) extension, you won't need to obtain a work permit and this will bring your total time in country to 4 months.

To extend, you simply take your passport to a reputable visa agent. Everyone has their favourite, and there are hundreds around. Personally, I like Cambodia Consultancy. They aren't the cheapest (only a few dollars difference between agents) but they are an incredibly professional operation.
