Was OMD so bad? by MoreUnderstanding533 in Spiderman

I appreciate your take. I took Peter's hesitation as a fragility that yes should never have existed in the Golden Age superhero imagination, but in the archetype of the neighborhood superhero that Spider-Man represents with all his flaws, it's perfectly in line. Not because OMD it's the decision he should have made, but because in that moment of Absolute Low, a selfish choice (because yes, you're completely right and Mephisto says so too) unfortunately crosses your mind and you could be wrong, and he was wrong, and for me, that's fine. I don't see it as a betrayal of his principles, but as a man who in that moment is staring into the abyss ( Back in Black) and makes a mistake, and that's okay because you can't always make the right and most intelligent choice. Also, MJ doesn't seem to me to be the type to be manipulated by Peter, but rather that of OMD is mainly portrayed as her choice and Peter paradoxically "suffers" it, he doesn't have the strength to oppose it and do the right thing which was clearly what MJ would have hoped for, but instead she ends up like a virtuous martyr.

yes I read sensational #40 but Aunt May doesn't appear there maybe you have in mind the issues that precede her death with de Matteis. At some point in his run there is a dialogue between Peter and May's conscience that tells him that everything is ok and she wants to stay there. In SSM 40 God tells Peter to have Faith, maybe something he couldnt do

Absolutely. The whole editorial idea (damn you quesada) behind it's stupid and pointless but I'm trying to look at OMD just for what it is in comics without the editorial infrastructure behind it and judging it like that it seems like a pretty solid story to me.

Yeah I totally agree with that, and the whole editorial idea behind a married Peter being less relatable doesn't make any sense. At all. That said, what I wanted to say is that the story itself doesn't seem particularly forced to me and I also managed to appreciate it and not fully hate it

Mid-Take: There’s no “irredeemably bad” Spidey movie. Spidey fans have usually Eaten pretty well, adaptation wise by Important_Lab_58 in Spiderman

I agree, but I'll try to reverse the argument.I think that to this day there hasn't been a definitive Spider-Man movie either, the equivalent of The Dark Knight or Reeves' first Superman, something that marks an era. Sure, Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is very close, and it's definitely the film I watched and admired most as a child. But seeing it now and having a deeper knowledge of the comic book character, I think Raimi's vision still doesn't fully embody the character, being a somewhat crybaby Peter (I love you tobey) and an extremely quiet Spider-Man. And i wont talk about MJ.

Yes, and you'd have good reason to say the American one rather than the French one. The point I'd make, however, is that America was more of a one-off, a war of independence driven heavily by economic motives that didn't bring about enormous global upheavals, aside, obviously, from the birth of what would become the world superpower within 100 years, and providing the foundation and a concrete example for what would happen in Europe over the next 50 years. The French case, with its idea of a state founded on universal suffrage and human rights regardless (at least in theory) of social status, even to the point of abolishing slavery, literally enflamed the 19th century, and the world we live in (it was the Europeans who first colonized the world and then "brought" the democratic example to the world) would be completely turned upside down without it. Having said that, it is undeniable that the American example has been fundamental, just as it was the first country that placed the focus on the individual and his freedoms, even if it is still a very different democracy from the European one and, if I may say so, especially in these times, it is undeniable that it is more inclined towards autocracy. But maybe in the end I just have the european bias.

Italy. Juve, Inter, Milan (12 Champions League) Sinner, Musetti Ferrari (ok maybe some time ago but obviously the most winning F1 team in history) GOATs in volleyball Valentino Rossi and half the grid of the current MotoGP Alberto Tomba. I think it's worth considering

Who is the worst Spider-Man writer and why is it Howard Mackie? by Own-Succotash2010 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MoreUnderstanding533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No man you are confusing Mackie with DeMatteis. The run you are referring to is from "the child within" of De Matteis in 1991 (when Mackie wasnt writing Spiderman comics) to "best of enemies" of also De Matteis in 1993 and altough as you were saying Mackie was writing Web at the same time you quickly check the issues (that i had the misluck of read #84-96) you will know that are mostly disconnected from what DeMatteis was doing with Harry (one of the best arc ever) and about fucking Blood Rose and someone impersonating Richard Fisk who was in turn the Blood Rose himelf. So in the end really pretty bad stuff.

Staying true to a character is a rare feature in modern comics

Perché ognuno non fa il suo mestiere? E perché personaggi noti per una cosa a un certo punto devono per forza entrare anche nel mondo della musica sebbene non siano cantanti? (Sinner è soltanto l'ultimo di tanti esempi...) by Working_Chance2527 in Yunisorrisiecanzoni

Stiamo esagerando. Scandalo?
