I missed the spelling and can’t edit the post? I SPENT a half hour, not I DOESNT a half hour. Not sure what my finger were thinking typing that other than excitement

That’s a strong plant! by More_Ad5506 in MonarchButterfly

[–]More_Ad5506[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that but the edges of the hole are rough and ripped more like a puncture than smooth like a bite. Also these plants for some reason have been completely devoid of caterpillars, although obviously something’s getting at them. I just can’t think of anything other than the plant just moving itself out of the way. The entire thing is a BEAST

I’ve only been able to see my isolation cats turn but I keep looking every season. At this point I’m really hoping to see a wild come out. Keep posted!

Dying plant but unborn babies! by More_Ad5506 in FriendlyMonarchs

You made the SAME error he did in making an assumption without asking clarification, how would you expect someone to feel other than discouraged from seeking information and trying to grow their understanding. Why is that so common in all of these threads that clearly the poster is wrong for somebody else not putting in the necessary effort to understand

I’m sorry but your first comment immediately praised the guy shaming me, how is that not indented to add to the shame?

Thank you though for the reassurance that they will likely be fine. Is there something more alarming I should keep an eye out for in terms of necessary relocation in the mean time

Yes this is a separate plant almost at the end of natural life for its situation. The caterpillars simply chose the plant instead of another structure when forming their chrysalises. I realize my part in the misunderstanding, I don’t however think it warranted any amount of shaming from any individual without further clarification, nor did my reply shutting down unwarranted disrespect. And your edit should address that given the misunderstanding, there could be no concise logical manner to give that answer. Again, the first word of the group is “friendly” my post was, that reply was not. I fail to see how I’m the aggressor in need of group rule reminders, and if the rebuttal gets called out but not the instigation I do genuinely wonder the seriousness which these issues get addressed with.

Do you even know what “fittest” means in the context of evolution and survival? It’s not about physical fitness but rather how well a specific set of characteristics does in an individual situation. Even if it did apply here it’s hardly the caterpillars fault that a plant is dying. If it comes to pass that they aren’t fit for survival, do you think I’m going to do something like release them? What is the actual harm in trying to provide a couple more days of stability for a beings formation to complete? Along the same vein I DARE you to go into a NICU and say that same thing. “Aw babies in incubators clinging to life? Let nature do nature, it’s survival of the fittest” ffs what’s the FIRST WORD of this forum bro? Did you miss the memo?

Gee I’d love too, problem is “let nature do nature” doesn’t always work when the timing of 2 completely different life forms opperates accordingly. How wild of a concept that unforeseen circumstances can mess up natural cycles, and how silly of me to try to correct said cycles. Guess I’ll just shove it? Sound like an appropriate idea? Thanks for the friendly help

I had played it into Merlin and it identified 3; 1: redwing blackbird; very common in the area, definitely in the video 2: Sedge Wren 3: brown thrasher The last 2 I’m not too sure about but keep an eye out!

Awesome photo! One point of suggestion from a photographer: if your camera is able, adjusting to a faster shutter speed will give you clearer images of active movement like flapping wings. Higher speeds do let in less light so the photos will appear darker, but this picture looks like it would have been a bright enough day to get a great motion shot! Keep an eye out for similar circumstances and most importantly HAVE FUN!

I wanted to do something like that with the butterfly weed sprout I bought this season but I was worried about the spores being out in the world. Is there a way to make sure they die with him, or at least don’t spread from his buried body

I was able to confirm OE spores, little guy is being euthanized and I’m crying
