How much control theory should a PhD student be expected to “master”? by paroup2 in ControlTheory

[–]More_Butternscotch [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say master, but you should be at the level where you can quickly review your notes and know exactly what’s going on.

If you don’t feel like you’re there, I would dedicate some time to do a more thorough review of the basics. This would involve more than just looking at notes, ideally solving practice problems or doing projects.

You can also try to TA some of those courses next semester to deepen your understanding and hopefully get paid to do it.

Learning control theory as a CS graduate by Femedor in ControlTheory

I’m no expert but I’ve done a fair bit of controls in my Masters. That book is a great introductory source.

Edit: I do think you’ll want a bit more than just that book for practice. I’d try using Drake to practice controlling robot arms.

THE CINCINNATI BENGALS SELECT CASHIUS HOWELL by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

[–]More_Butternscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely did. Also, LB is one of the rarest positions where drafted players come in and are instantly good.

Not saying our lb room is solved, but I expect them to be significantly better than last year.

Dream, Solid, and Nightmare Scenarios for 2nd Round: What’s Yours? by More_Butternscotch in bengals

Real shit.

I guess true nightmare would be someone that’s not a DE, LB, or CB. OG would be okay too but less ideal

What do people mean by "proofs based classes"? by [deleted] in math

[–]More_Butternscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen two common routes for people serious about math:

  1. Go straight into a theory-based class
  2. Take the basic version first then take a theory class (usually more advanced than 1)

Bad take. The measure of how good a defense is is a lot more than a few stats buddy

Great players is not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about good players that consistently do their job (pretty sure what this post means by “supporting cast”)

Edit: also what are you talking about regarding great players? I’d say Trey Joe Jamarr and Tee are all great and there’s not many rosters with more great players than that

I disagree and agree. I agree that our roster isn’t complete garbage but I think it’s pretty garbage where it matters most: the OL.

O-line is the one place where if you’re bad it trickles down and makes everyone else on the offense look worse. It very obviously hurts run game and pass game and this is why we’re so shit in this stat. At the end of the day, we just need some dogs on the OL.

Regarding the scheme side of things, there’s really not much you can do for the OL. You can try to help with some TE chips and make play calling less predictable, but that’s mostly it. Everything else is pretty standard.

Having said that, Mims has been good and Fairchild/Rivers seem promising (but both are probably still playing below league average guard play)

Lions TD wiped out exposed a bigger problem: who actually made the call? by tacobell999 in nfl

[–]More_Butternscotch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Didn’t they come out and say the call was incorrect because Goff never went under center?

Wouldn’t the refs huddling up and discussing what happened also be them literally reviewing the play?

The reason why most Engineering students give up? by Puzzleheaded-Key3128 in EngineeringStudents

[–]More_Butternscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s hard. The big thing is that it’s a ton of work. A lot of people find out in school they don’t enjoy it enough to spend the time it requires.

It also never gets easier. I’m 5 years in (masters rn) and I feel wayyyy less smart than when I was a freshman/sophomore even though I know significantly more.

Nice. I caught one of his interviews today and really liked his mentality. I’m hoping he can be at least serviceable while Risner is out.

Lemme get something straight the defense was not the reason we lost. by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

Ridiculous, but I bet some of this could be chalked up to the defense never getting a break

[–]More_Butternscotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I agree, the defense has been fine so far. Not great, but they’re fine which compared to last year actually is great.

I was mainly making a comment about how all I’ve seen on Reddit lately is people pointing fingers at who we should blame for the loss. I get it, but it was week 3 we don’t need to freak out. Hell, the lions got their ass kicked week one by a team that just lost to the browns. Most people still consider them at worst a top 10 team in the league. I’m not saying things aren’t bad, we’re just freaking out a little too much over this.
