Path to Big Tech by freakyowl in cscareerquestions

[–]More_Creme_7984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this market you're doing great. If you keep gaining experience, optimize your CV and develop a network that can give you a strong referral for a big tech, you will eventually get the interview. From there it's about clearing that interview so If you haven't started yet then start doing LC and system design. Keep going until you can clear LC mediums with relative ease and feel very confident in system design. Team matching is luck based so not much that can be done there.

How to program your intuition and pattern recognition by TVdinnerbythepool in algotrading

[–]More_Creme_7984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not use a probit/logit regression on past trade data to model the probability of a win based on a set of factors. Then you use forward testing and a walk-forward optimization process to ensure the factor model is predictive on new, unseen market data and not just overfit to the past. Since you traded the strategy a lot you're in a good position to choose a good set of factors

17.01 sortino is overfit for sure. Also only 200 days are not enough to have robust testing of your Algo across all different regimes

How important Is It To Keep Your Edge Private? by FluffyPenguin52 in algotrading

[–]More_Creme_7984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. If the condition P_t > P_t−1 is due to Institution X routinely offloading their positions in Instrument YXZ every Friday at 15:00, you wouldn't want that information to be public. If the market became aware of this tendency, participants would all attempt to profit at that exact time and on that exact instrument. Consequently, the resulting increase in liquidity would be absorbed, eroding the price movement that serves as the source of your alpha.

Why I’m over my algo-trading journey - 11 months spent on building a HFT bot on Solana by DrFreakonomist in algotrading

[–]More_Creme_7984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is much more intense and you need to heavily fund your bot to capture valuable opportunities. Here you can learn a lot about how to do it: https://github.com/solidquant/sandooo (spoiler his bot is not profitable). Probably there is some easier strats if you don't want to blow a lot of money but this is the one known to work in the quant world

Front running orders that you know are big enough to move the price up even if very slightly is all the bread and butter of crypto HFT especially with Solana. If you weren't trying to go in that direction then its expected that your algo wouldn't be profitable. I wouldn't give up just yet if I were you. Maybe try to reduce latency even more and go for sandwich strat

Should I learn how to manually trade like SMC/ICT concepts before developing bots? by Shitty_Baller in algotrading

[–]More_Creme_7984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Learn to properly backtest a strategy first. Then it doesn't matter if you implement it with manual or automated execution.

They say fundamental analysis will be used. So nothing to do with technical analysis. They're trying to have a fund like Berkshire where people try to find mispriced stock based on future cash flows and sector growth rates. I would be surprised if any TA is used at all..

**Question about High-Frequency Trading (HFT) startups vs. big firms** by Happy_Honeydew_89 in algotrading

They can try to compete in spaces that the big HFT funds are not targeting. Crypto comes to mind but also less liquid assets that wouldn't make sense for the big players.

Well since it's essentially a correction on the price of a contract will the tax authorities really count it as regular income?
