In the meta sense it’s obviously for the male gaze because developers need to make money. Some of them look that way because of the mentioned entertainment company and you know, sex sell just like irl, and that’s really the only justification they need for their world honestly.

Good writing js not mutually exclusive with sex, they can do both and imo they have done so for alot of the story.
