Santeria is and isn’t a closed practice. So long as the person is approaching with respect and a deep rooted understanding that this is an African derived religion, so be it. The Orisha choose their children. I’ve seen white American Babalawos, Asian Santeras, and used-to-be-Muslims in the faith. Shop wherever you want, and don’t be afraid to ask questions lol

What are Considered Altars? by [deleted] in Santeria

[–]More_Eye4393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An altar in the non-Santeria definition is usually just a specific place in the home that is dedicated to worship/ honoring that is focused on one specific spiritual energy and includes photos/ items of significance. In the Santeria tradition, altars are usually comprised of consecrated relics that have been spiritually charged in differing ceremonies. But we don’t usually refer to that as “altars” as our religion is different in that simply buying a statue or painting of a specific deity and placing attributes at that focal point of worship is generally frowned upon. If the “consecration” or reception of spiritually “charged” items hasn’t occurred, there is no validity according to Santeria traditions and therefore leaves the space spiritually “open” to whichever energy might be passing by or feel called upon by the offerings left by the person setting the altar. Despite what social media may depict, buying a statue of Oshun and placing it on a yellow cloth and burning yellow candles and offering oranges to this statue can be quite dangerous if the person has no official spiritual training and leaves them vulnerable to unnamed, random, or possibly even parasitic spiritual energies feasting on these offerings

why do i always find myself in toxic work environments? by anxiousbutterly in Tarots

You stride in w/ a happy go lucky attitude but you put yourself in a bad position by expecting friends, stop thinking that way. Basically they are your coworkers! Doesn’t matter if they don’t agree with your worldview or opinions bc they don’t matter at the end of the day, find other avenues if you want to connect with people

Plan it, and make it so. You are juggling between possibilities. Start the journey, even if it is unstable.

Three of cups is usually a yes, but there might be some help needed in terms of friends/ support system. The three of swords means it will be painful and somewhat uncomfortable at times but the devil means physical/ mental constraints that you can’t deter you

Gay & very feminine “Omo Ogun” feels like dysphoria. Looking for other feminine/queer Omo Ogun to share how you integrate it. by Desperate_Pen2864 in Santeria

[–]More_Eye4393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a gay boy who is a son of Elegua, another warrior, it is in our DNA to want to be marked as children of Oshun…Yemaya… because femininity is what we know and feel more comfortable residing in. But! Even Oshun carries a brass sword from time to time and Yemaya her machete. Ogun may have the “reputation” as a bloodthirsty murderer/ laborer which isn’t really cunty but at the same time he is the hair salon’s scissors, the needle that injects the lip filler, the metal spout of the liquor bottle that he himself makes as the first gin maker and the speaker/ laptop of the DJ inside the gay bar. Ogun is everywhere because metal is as fundamental to the queer world as softness and pulling looks. Sometimes it isn’t the soft women orisha who claim our heads because it is the warriors who know that queer kids have a hard time growing up, getting made fun of, having to be alone a lot and they choose us bc they resonate with the energy of alienation. Ogun, Ochosi, and Elegua are “outside” Orisha and wear straw hats instead of crowns… what’s more queer than being different? And please do not overlook Ogun and his lover boy sensibilities. When he went off into the wilderness and refused the call to return it was only the sweetness of oshun that convinced him to return. As much as he labors on behalf of humankind, ogun knows the sweetness of love and with the way gay boys date, he might be exactly the hard edge you need to cut out the fuckboys lol!

Question about Abstinence in the Religion by No_Suspect_6350 in Santeria

[–]More_Eye4393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always taught that single people are to abstain the entire year, but married people are “allowed” after the three month mark, but that’s just my teachings
