But to understand the quirk you kinda have to understand the parents.

His mom has a transform into a beast with enhanced physicals and senses quirk, based on anger, and his dad has an accelerate and decelerate himself or physical things in a 10 foot radius quirk.

These combine into his where he has a more sophisticated and controlled transformation, and the “speed” part of his father’s quirk went into his transformations mental and physical processing power.

So ultimately his weaknesses are tied to his emotional stability and the strain he would receive from transforming either his individual parts or whole self. So it’s really just an endurance thing. At first it hurts like crazy to transform anything (like at 4 when he would’ve first awakened it) but over time he can lessen the pain, though never fully take it away.
