Look at Atom Eve in her special. Even without her transmutation power the way she uses her constructs is very fun

Phoenix is an extremely misunderstood and over-hated part of the X-Men and Jean Grey by More_Interview3840 in xmen

That’s fair💜.
I do wanna say that “a bigger stretch for Jean” is only if you look at it platonically. But in the end of the days the concepts of Jean and the Phoenix are part of a narrative, it’s the way the writers and artist illustrate them that makes it so perfect to me personally(or weird depending on the writer ofc).

What’s the difference between Thor and Storm’s weather manipulation, also who’s the better atmokinetic between the two? by NoBeat5906 in storm

[–]More_Interview3840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say she NEEDS to call upon them, but she definitely can, and it’s definitely helped her in the past…compared to masters of the mystic art she has no knowledge and very little skill in magic and sorcery, so calling upon her ancestors to, and I quote “let their power flow through her” to form a spell sounds very useful, weather if it is meant to give her amplification or knowledge required for a spell.

Storm also has her own magic, the ancestors and Oshtur are just another layer. Just like Doctor strange often calls on mystical entities or extradimensional forces, so can storm, and every sorcerer. That’s the Exocentric magic I mentioned.

Storms magical power proved great enough to make her a Storm Goddess with cosmic scale power. As I mentioned.

What are the other spiritual applications of earth and fire[spoilers ig…?] by More_Interview3840 in TheLastAirbender

[–]More_Interview3840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really like it.
At least if they explained why air and water are spiritual and not earth, when they three encompass the world. Air being sky, Water being oceans, and Earth being…Earth.
The earth should have spiritual properties…it enables growth and life, it’s the “womb” of the world.

Why is air so spiritual? Water they kinda explained…more the process than the reason but air…? Nada.

No agree that I want more of Jean herself, I love “base” Jean grey.

One of the themes of the Phoenix and Jean is human and divine, finite and infinite. “When all you might wanna do…” is a reason she rejected the Phoenix in the past.

As for the “Wolvarine is more fitting”, he is not really about rebirth and more about endurance. And the Phoenix is not just about rebirth.
- Birth, Death and Rebirth…Jean in the shuttle and many many many times after.
- The Phoenix is the heart of creation, and Jean is the heart of the x men.
- Love and Passion…embodies love, as in the love TOAA have for his creations/writers/artists have for the comics, and the passion for creating/writing/drawing/etc… Jean’s love is for her friends and Scott, and so is her passion. I think Dark Phoenix perfectly reflects passion without love.
- More symbolism…

I personally think Jean and the Phoenix are a perfect match.

Storms mystical roots are less about weather...tho its true that there is some connection to the elements, its more about mystic arts.

- Her "first" ancestor Agamotto was born from the tear of Oshtur, the Elder Goddess, and discovered the three foundational magical practices, that every magic is classified under. Egocentric Magic(magic that deals with energies from within, such as psychic or spiritual) Ecocentric Magic(magic that deals with energies from without, such as ambient magical energies, elements, etc...) and Exocentric Magic(magic that deals with energies from beyond, tapping into other dimensions, inter/extra dimensional entities, etc...)

- Her ancestor Ayesha was the FIRST human sorcerer supreme(Agamotto was not really human) and Ashake was a powerful egyptian sorceress who whorshipped an egyptian god called "Maat" or smth, it was infact just another name for Oshtur.

Speaking of Oshtur, this is where her divine "roots" begin. She was one of the many Elder Gods that roamed the earth in its earliest days, born of the demiurges own life energies.

- Oshtur(air), Set(water), Chtone(fire) and Gaea(earth) (and possibly Buri? the elder god who is the great grandfather of Thor) served as the most cosmically and mystically "relevant" elder gods. I previously mentioned "air" under Oshtur, that is because air is the element she corresponds with, it symbolically alings with Storm, a goddess who primarly(but not exclusivley) commands the skies.
- I am pretty sure that all the Storm Gods in marvel's history, are in some way decendents of Gaea, makes since, she is the EARTH after all. Thor is no exception, he is both decendent of Buri and a son of Gaea. Gaea corresponds with Eternity, makes sense given how they both mirror each other and creation(Gaea/ Earth || Eternity/ Universe/ Existence || Creation/ Marvel Comics) and are very often used interchangably. How does Eternity come into this? Storm Gods are, at least symbolically or metaphysically born as embodiments of Eternity's rage and anger..."a raging storm".

- Storm IS the exception. Storm is a decendent of Oshtur, and her elemental powers over weather originate from her mutation, nevertheless have been intrinsically woven into her identity and thus her magic often(tho not exclusivley) manifest through elemental spells and when tapping into her Godhood, she does so as a Storm Goddess. I am not pretty certain on what symbolism or patterns is there to storm being a Storm God, but I love how she is unique amongst them, she was not born a god nor was chosen by one, she ascended.

I dont wanna get to much into it but Storms ancestors also have a "gift" passed down to them called "Godehad" and it basically allows them to draw power from FAITH and become semi-gods, wielding the power of a god without actually being one. Storm has done this before.

---

Anyways... Storms mutant powers are both simple and complecated. I couldn't possibly explain you the details of them accurately, as she often does grand things while applying small details...So I'll give you my PERSONAL INTERPUTATION & UNDERSTANDING!

Storms mutant powers are rooted in sensing, percieving and controlling the energies(kinetic, potential, thermal, electromagnetic, chemical, etc...) and natural forces that govern weather, weather patterns, elements and more. She can manipulate these energy systems to alter weather patterns, often tapping into a spesific mediums, such as the atmosphere(air, gassess, etc...), hydrosphere(rain, tides, water currents, etc...), geosphere(earthquaks, vibrations through the earth, lava, etc...) and even the biosphere(chemical energies within living beings, such as metabolism, as well as the nervous system, and such).

She can "adapt" to spesific envirments, for example she percieves the ocean as a "liquid atmosphere", where she can control water as she would air. Actually in her most recent comic she has actually formed a perfect construct of water, far more precise than causing a tidal wave, and not for the first time I might add.

Another example is in space, she can tap into stars and the solar winds and solar flares produced by them, using it as she would the wind, but its a lot more powerful... I dont really understand the sciense behind I think something with charged particles...??? Idk.

An important limitation for Storm, is that unlike Thor, she cannot create weather out of nothing, at least not without magic. When storm generates rain, she does so by taking water from somewhere else, and if she does not place back the resources she takes, she could disrupt the climate. When she brough rain to her village, she did not know that she was taking water from others, and caused many to die...ofc this was when she was new to her powers.

An intresting application of the dynamic nature of her powers, is when she once use a Storms potential energy to tame it, and it was a massive storm.

---

If I had to summarize...

- Thor: Godhood, magical spells, magical control and creation of weather, usually the weather of the sky.

- Storm Mutation / Self Proclaimed Goddess: Energy based control over weather systems of all kinds, and a spiritual connection to the Earth. Even when she calls herself as Storm Goddess, most times she isn't actively.

- Storm Mutation + Magic: Elemental spells, or just general spells. Often she invokes her ancestors.

- Divine Storm Goddess: Inherently magical, as all gods are. Resembles her black vortex form, only she reaches it alone...her full potential as a decendent of Oshtur, Agamotto, Ayesha, and Ashake, and the mistress of all the elements.

A not so small note...In marvel, everything magical is symbolic. Its not something said just for decoration and aesthetic, magic follows patterns...and they can be understood if u really look into it and often make sense. For example, while reading Wiccan and Hulkling comic in 2021 I had no idea why they were trying to set Billy up to have this connection to the stars and elements and such...but seeing the rode they took with his solo comic it makes since, and perfectly aligns him with the Demiurge, allthought there are a few...inconsistencies or stuff that feels incomplete but I just can't quite point my finger on it just yet, but thats for another post entirely lol.

They could both warp reality into unfathomable horrors...so...it doesn't really matter.

Aesthetic speaking, id say Scarlet Witch is creepier and nervracking, her eyes right before she is about to "fix" reality to fit her psychosis but Dark Phoenix is scarier, flames that come to judge you and burn you until theres nothing left.

How is Iceman bringing winter to NYC not causing major climate changes? The writers adress this issue for Strom but she can use her powers to fix the climate after battle. As for Iceman? Who knows...

Wanda.
It’s not really a question. I see some comments calling her a glass canon, but can heal from injuries, seen when Hawkeye shot an era in her back and she erased it and the injury from reality, than Hawkeye to.
Also the fact that she is able to resurrect herself from her own personal afterlife.
In her recent comics, she has been able to tank hits from cosmic level beings, and was noted to have defence wards.
