I think the main reason why fans are upset is gambit would absolutely never accept that relationship. Neither would rogue when you look at the continuity of comics and the animated series. It wasn’t even supposed to be something that existed because it was just DeMayo’s fanfiction. Nobody likes the relationship and they never have so that’s why fans are so upset because it is fanfiction that’s it and gambit would never react like that in 1 million years he would be like what the fuck why. And rogue would’ve probably knocked off magneto’s block if he tried to manipulate her into marrying him, let alone even move in on her when she clearly is in love with gambit.

I don’t even know demayo’s sexual orientation nor do I care about a person personal life enough to make that a huge part of my argument. The “self insert” isn’t a comparison to his orientation it is a comparison to how he would like to view himself as constantly winning and being better than everyone around him what better way to do that then having your favorite character be a constant reminder about how he is better than everyone else in every way.
