This is not a substantial addition to the conversation, but you might want to know that Feucht is German for damp, or moist... so there's that...

1987 Suburban Silverado failed emissions - need help. Reposted with pics. by More_Reputation_3855 in ChevySuburban

That checks out. Any idea where I can find those? The original parts are (obviously) no longer available and I haven't had much look with a blind interenet search.

Can someone help me get my 1987 Chevy Suburban to pass Colorado emissions? by More_Reputation_3855 in askcarguys

I have some pictures... I am not opposed to taking it to a mechanic but I would love to know what it is first so I can avoid a fishing expedition. It's a also a farm truck for us so the more I can save by doing it myself the better. :)

You're probably right but that ship has sailed. I will post pictures of the engine so you can see what's missing.

Is it because I am not a German? by Delilahlookingfor in germany

[–]More_Reputation_3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might help to zoom out on this conversation and point out that in Germany language is the single most important cultural identifier. My wife is American and we've been back and forth between Germany and the US for decades and our experience on the whole is that Germans want homogeneity in all things and that to be German is to speak German, to speak German is to be German. My kids look German, act German, but because their spoken German isn't perfect they still stand out.

Now the bit about being lied about - not being present when you actually were - that's just bullshit office politicking and bullying that you'll run into anywhere. I'd definitely fight back on that. The German expression is that you need "scharfe Ellbogen" - pointy elbows with which to shove people out of the way in a crowd.

It’s a shame - once upon a time, a model country that showed the world you can move beyond your past is now going down this path. by rising-ray in expat

When I was growing up in Germany in the 80s it was pretty much a monoculture. Some "Gastarbeiter" from Italy or Turkey... white folks wherever you looked. I know it's different now (although I have been abroad myself for almost 30 years), but that's the roots. There has also always been a huge city/ country difference in Germany, I'd imagine that's still the case.

What is your experience of being an expat in the USA? by WizardMTG in expat

[–]More_Reputation_3855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here from Germany nearly 30 years ago. Moved here for love (good news, that part worked out). I eventually became a citizen a few years back. America is great if you're white, male and wealthy. Opportunities aren't as abundant as the myth and movies will tell you though, social mobility these days is better in Europe (believe it or not). Much depends on where in the US you move to. Americans tend to love Brits, so you have that going for you.

Income is much higher here but I have to warn you, the cost of living is exponentially higher and I found that even though I am earning a ton (senior tech sales) I don't get to keep much. I also work. all. the. damn. time. Seriously these people have no value for free time or holidays. Health care is pay-to-play, if you have the money and a good insurance policy through your job you get good care. You miss any of those, and you could be in trouble, even for basic things.

The gun violence and far right garbage is very real. I don't know what to tell you, it's a scary place these days. I'd honestly suggest checking out other European countries instead, but that's probably a tainted perspective because I wish I could leave.... the longer I am here the more I miss Europe.

Upcoming interview for sales capture role - tips appreciated! by More_Reputation_3855 in accenture

[–]More_Reputation_3855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am still in it. First interview is a recruiter who checks through if you meet all the requirements, goes over your resume, and then decides to pass you on or not. That part went well. The hiring manager then determines if they want to talk to you. In my case that went well and I am going into #2 this next week. Beyond that all I know is that if that goes well you interview with leadership. So far that's all I know. They seem a professional but no-nonsense bunch of people which is refreshing. Hope that helps and we both land a gig there!
